NOTES ABOUT COVID-19:

We thoroughly clean the cottage with bleach after each guest, wash all linens in hot water, and sanitize the key and all surfaces. We also close up the cottage for 3-5 days after each guest.

The cottage is in a small community and separate from the main house, so there is no need to interact with us or other nearby homes. If you are feeling ill, there are several emergency rooms about 15 minutes away.

ABOUT THE COTTAGE:

The Cottage at Quail Haven is a tiny studio with bathroom located behind the main house at Quail Haven, a solar powered, rural property in Washoe Valley, Nevada at the foot of the Tahoe Range. The private cottage sits in a quiet neighborhood right next to a wildlife and bird sanctuary. Visitors can walk out the backyard and use the walking and biking paths in the area.

AMENITIES:

The cottage includes a small kitchen with a sink, refrigerator (no freezer), stove and toaster oven. There is a full bed for two and the full bath includes a toilet, sink, shower, towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and a hair dryer. There's a small wardrobe with shelves for clothes and shoes and a dining area for two.

PETS:

We accept pets at the cottage, but they should be kept inside the cottage at night. This area has coyotes and bobcats that come out at night. We do let our chickens out during the day.

OUTDOORS:

There is a fan for warmer days and a heater for cold weather, but the cottages does not have air conditioning. The cottage has a back deck that looks out over the valley and the mountains and a small front patio that is perfect for a morning coffee. There's plenty of parking and the property includes a vegetable garden, an events barn, and a trampoline as well as a multitude of trees, cottontail rabbits, birds and, of course, quail.

LOCATION:

Quail Haven is about 15 minutes from Reno and Carson City, about an hour from Lake Tahoe, about three hours north of Yosemite and four hours east of San Francisco. This is a wonderful area centered in the high Nevada desert with access to the Sierra Nevada and Virginia range.

Guest access
Guests have access to the property's gardens, the cottage and the local nature reserve and hiking trails. In the summer and fall, the garden has shaded seating areas and a hammock.

Other things to note
NOTE: In order to save water and the small septic tank, hot water is limited to about 5-7 minutes. The water heater for the cottage is only 7 gallons and may take a few minutes to heat up again after it's been used. Navy showers may be necessary.

NOTE: The cottage is on a well and septic system. Please put only toilet paper down the toilet and no trash or feminine products.

NOTE: The cottage is very small and may not be suitable for more than two people. Our summers can get hot and currently the cottage does not have AC. We will sometimes shut the cottage down during the hottest time of the year.
