Entire top floor of the house served by a private entrance on top a set of stairs. A darling, bright, spacious apartment with all amenities.
I live here part of the year and then travel. My home is your home when I am gone.

The space

The apartment is located on the second floor and has a nice deck that take you to the front door. This is a No shoes house, so please leave them outside. Once inside there are windows or doors on almost every walls, which brings a lot of light into the space. The kitchen opens up to the dining room and the living room. There are not a lot of furniture just enough to bring you comfort. The second part of the house is a master bedroom with a large bathroom with tub. The laundry room is located on the bottom floor, at the bottom of stairway.

Guest access

You will have access to the entire upstairs of the house.

Interaction with guests

I rent my place when I am traveling, so most likely I will not see you. But if you happen to be arriving the day I am leaving then we might cross path. I have a person who takes care of my guests when I am gone. She has been a host with her own Airbnb for 5 years. You will be in good hands. Please ask before you arrive if you have special needs.

Other things to note

There is one parking space only for your car behind the house and plenty of parking around the corner. The parking space behind my house is rather small, so please keep your car rental small, if you rent one and if you come with yours keep in mind that the space is for a small car, so you might have to park around the corner on the main street.

We loved our second stay at Chibo's Japanese retreat! It's only one block from the beach where you will find a cute coffee shop, deli and restaurant. We were able to have a fire on the beach and take a long relaxing walk along the path and visit the pier. We came for the Capitola wine and art festival and getting a Uber from her location was super easy. The apartment was clean, comfortable and fresh feeling. The deck is a nice place to have coffee and soak in the morning sun. Parking was easy and the neighbors were helpful and relaxed. We will stay here again in the future and recommend it to other travelers to check out!

There was plenty of space and kitchen had everything. Bathroom was great. It was a short walk of 4 min to the beach where we actually saw humpback whales. It was my first whale sighting in person so that was very exciting. We also enjoyed all the little Japanese touches as I have spent a lot of time with friends and students from Japan and visiting there twice. We also really enjoyed that the kitchen had filtered tap water so we could refill our reusable water bottles. We stayed for a few nights for a wedding nearby and this locations was perfect for the occasion.

“The no shoes house” ...“Japanese treat by the sea” gave the impression i was booking a clean, minimalist, quiet apartment. In contrast, the two family home is unkempt, personal belongings in buckets outside the house next to the laundry area, littered with sand bags, weeds and chains hanging from the roof The upstairs deck at the front of the unit faces the main road, which is very heavily traveled. The unit itself was musty, not an environment where you would be comfortable removing your shoes. The final straw, was there was no legal on-premises parking as advertised, for any vehicle. Regrettably, this “super-host” was not too super in resolving this matter. Thanks to AirBNB for stepping in and doing the right thing.

What a terrific place! Loved being able to walk to the beach. Everything we needed in the apartment, enjoyed having breakfast on the little deck. Close to restaurants, easy drive to Soquel and Santa Cruz. We took advantage of proximity to Moes Alley and heard some great latin bands Friday night and went to a outdoor play at Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Neighborhood was quiet even on Saturday night. Having a designated parking place is vital in the area.

Light-filled, art-filled upstairs unit. Very clean and comfortable. Parking a little tricky but fine.
