For food, drinks and activities we recommend:

The Grey Cat Café on Hverfisgata is frequented by local artists has fantastic atmosphere and is great for early breakfast and brunch.
For great coffee you have Kaffifélagið at Skólavörðustígur, Kaffitár at Laugavegur, Kaffismiðjan at Kárastígur, Mokka Café Skólavörðustígur and Café Haiti in Tryggvagata.
Laugavegur is the main downtown shopping street with local design stores and restaurants.
For Happy hour and late drinks Boutique Hotel 101 on Hverfisgata has a nice lounge.
For fast and healthy food Fish and Chips at Tryggvagata, Happ at Austurstræti and Grænn kostur at Skólavörðustígur are all great choices.
For the new Nordic Cuisine go to Dill Restaurant at the Nordic House, designed by Alvar Alto.
You can also check Reykjavík´s new concert hall Harpa, inside you have Epal design store, 12 Tónar for music and Munnharpan café and Kolabrautin restaurant for fine dining on the top floor - also great for drinks. Very close at the Harbor is the Kolaport flee market which is open during weekends and once there you must try the legendary Icelandic hotdog "pylsa" sold at the little stand right across.
The new Marina Hotel at the harbor is also great for food and hangout. We also reccomend Kex hostel at Skúlagata, Fishmarket restaurant at Aðalstræti, Grillmarkaðurinn restaurant at Lækjargata, Forréttabarinn Nýlendugata for tapas and Boston bar for late drinks on Laugavegur.
While in Iceland you should visit some of the fantastic swimming pools. In Reykjavík Laugardalslaug is our favourite, but you can also go to Vesturbæjarlaug in 107 Reykjavík and Sundhöllin in 101 Reykjavík. For museums we recommend Þjóðminjasafnið /National Museum at Suðurgata (just a few steps away from the apartment), Arbaer Museum Kistuhyl 110 Reykjavík, National Gallery Fríkirkjuvegur, Reykjavík Art Museum and i8 gallery Tryggvagata, Icelands leading gallery for contemporary art.

I am a student and an adventurer. I come from the Westfjords of Iceland and I have lived in Norway and Canada. My mom, Elísabet helps me out with the apartment as I am now living in Hungary where I go to university. We rent out my studio apartment in Reykjavík and a room and an apartment in my hometown Ísafjörður.
