Rustic attic bedroom plus 5.5 sqm studio / office space in Northcote warehouse built by artist Ben Sibley. There is a great atmosphere of creativity here, come for a self imposed creative residency or us the studio as a WFH office space! Comfy queen bed, basics such as clothes rack and desk provided. Very steep staircase and low ceiling at points due to shape of attic bedroom.
The space
Attic bedroom and attached studio in warehouse complex behind the main drag in Northcote - a lively suburb of Melbourne home to many great music venues, bars and wonderful places to eat. The warehouse itself is un-renovated - i.e. quite open, a little bit dusty and a true arts warehouse experience! The main warehouse space is quite cavernous and prone to being hot/ cold. The bedroom and studio is not insulated but we do provide a fan, electric blanket and a heater. We keep things as neat and tidy and as clean as we can but the nature of the space means that there is a certain ever present 'grunge' element. The room and studio being a combination of un-renovated and newly built is not going to be spotless / renovated space clean. Please don't book if this makes you uncomfortable. The staircase to the attic bedroom is also very steep, so care must be taken when climbing up and down the stairs, and it may not be suitable for those with physical access needs. There is no door to the bedroom, but there is privacy due to the height of the space and placement of the staircase.
We live close by and are available in case of any issues or emergencies.
Guest access
Guests have access to the main living space of the warehouse where there is a fully equipped kitchen and eating area. We request that you do not cook meat in the kitchen as we are vegan/ vegetarian.
We have our rehearsal studio in a mezzanine within the warehouse and there are a number of artist studios at the front of the warehouse complex, and artists will use the main living area during the day too. The whole place has a lovely arts community vibe and everyone is very friendly.
During your stay
We work on our music and record label from the warehouse so are around at various times to help with tips on what to see/ do in Melbourne and any transport trouble shooting. It's very easy to get around and we are 1 minute from the 86 tram and 6 minutes to Northcote train station.
Other things to note
This is a pretty special and unique warehouse, and as such it is not an appropriate air bnb for everyone's tastes. It is a functioning music and arts space, with regular band practices, artists coming and going, and a general creative buzz.
The space is also very close to High street and music can be heard from the local venues almost every night, as well as the sound of people talking and enjoying themselves. If you are looking for a super quiet space, this is not for you.
During the day it is reasonably peaceful, there may also be noise from our neighbours who are carpenters, or perhaps the ones who have a funk band will be having an early practice session! We are trying to represent the space as honestly as we can, and have had lots of people really love staying with us. Just make sure you are ok with a bit of dust, concrete floors and a certain amount of exposure to the elements - the temperature inside the warehouse is pretty reflective of what the outside temperature is. In winter we rug up, and in summer it can get quite warm.

Neighbourhood highlights
Northcote is such a wonderful neighbourhood. 20 mins from the city, 15 mins from Collingwood (which is where we work and is super great!) it's just far out enough to be relaxed but there's still heaps happening. The Northcote Town Hall is literally at the front door and boasts music and theatre all year round. There are some great music institutions such as the Northcote Theatre and Northcote Social Club for local and interstate indie bands, Bar 303 for Jazz, Open Studio for world/ gypsy music, crepes and true bohemia! Bars are open late and there's lots of great food including Pizza Meine Leibe (best pizza northside) and Tahini felafel eatery. There's lots of local shops as well boasting Melbourne made and ethical goods including Green Horse, Obus, A quirk of Fate, I dream a Highway, Local Shop, Brown and Bunting and tons more. Fantastic vinyl at Rathdowne Records and Thornbury Records. Incredible coffee and baked goods at All Are Welcome Bakery.

We are both musicians as well as running Eastmint Studios, and Esala also works at Friends of the Earth Co-op. We are passionate about arts, culture and the environment.
Eastmint Studios is in a warehouse in Northcote, and has around 15 artists working from there. We regularly put on gigs in our space which are community inclusive and promote active listening.
