Welcome to our tiny house built from recycled materials, situated in the middle of a quarter acre permaculture garden, 1km from Daylesford's main street and short walks to forest, mineral water springs, the Mill Market and Lake Daylesford.
The Permie Love Shack features a comfortable double bed with organic cotton sheets, a solar-powered panel heater for cold mountain nights, a high powered fan for summer, woollen carpet, a sink with hot + cold running water, a kettle to make endless cups of tea and a toaster. Please note there is no bar fridge as we are yet to find one that is energy efficient enough for our solar system.
There are two composting toilets and a shower room ensuite. Please bring eco-friendly toiletries, or use our soap, shampoo and conditioner. For those of you who might not know, composting toilets work best when the wees + poos are separated, hence we have two different style toilets. The inside one is a commode for wees only, and the toilet around the side of the Love Shack is a squat-style toilet.
The Shack looks out over a permaculture garden that features chickens, ducks and bees, dozens of fruit trees, and vegetable plots. We have two other tiny houses on the property that house young people who come and stay with us to learn how to live a simple off-grid existence. The closest one to the Love Shack is ten metres away. There are of course curtains for privacy. These young people also know to only interact with guests if the guests initiate contact.
Guest access to the shack is through the garden, which is shared with our family home. The Love Shack key has a high powered LED torch on the keyring for you to use if you enter the property when it's dark.
Parking is on the street outside our home or on the grass on the other side of the road under the Blackwood tree. We ask that you kindly don't park outside our neighbours' houses.
Interaction with guests
Should you require anything while you are staying here, please ask us. We are a friendly, busy, productive, down-to-earth family of four humans, one dog, and three on-farm helpers. We will certainly stay out of your way if that's what you prefer, but we do like to have a chat with our guests so it feels like a connection, not just a transaction.
Other things to note
We are a bicycling family and we don't own a car. Want to borrow a bike or two while you are in town? Just let us know and we'll lend you one. We also have a tandem we can lend you.
Edible and medicinal weeds, mushrooms and bush tuckers are a significant part of what we eat on a daily basis. If you would like us to take you on a foraging walk through our garden and the nearby commons, please ask us. Please note a fee is involved for this.
The permie love shack features 100% Australian woollen carpet and is thus a shoes off pad.
We're not crazy about smoking so if you could not smoke on the property or in the Love Shack that would be best. Thanks for understanding.
If you would like to bring your pet just let us know but please note the property is not fenced. We have a Jack Russell named Zero.
