Welcome to our tiny house built from recycled materials, situated in the middle of a quarter acre permaculture garden, 1km from Daylesford's main street and short walks to the forest, mineral water springs, the Mill Market and Lake Daylesford.

The space
PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BOOK as this is an unusual listing!

The Permie Love Shack features a comfortable double bed with organic cotton sheets, a solar-powered panel heater for cold mountain nights, a high powered fan for summer, woollen carpet, a sink with hot + cold running water, a kettle to make endless cups of tea and a toaster. Please note there is no bar fridge as we are yet to find one that is energy efficient enough for our solar system. Please also note we do not provide a rubbish bin. As a family we do not buy single-use plastic items and kindly ask that you take your rubbish home with you, but please leave your kitchen scraps in the compost bucket provided, for us to feed to our worms or chooks.

There are two composting toilets and a shower room ensuite. Please bring eco-friendly toiletries, or feel free to use our soap, shampoo and conditioner. As we are on tank water, we request you only have short showers and only one each day. We cannot stress this enough. If you like to have long luxurious showers, perhaps you might be better staying elsewhere.

For those of you who might not know, composting toilets work best when the wees + poos are separated, hence we have two different style toilets. The inside one is a commode for wees only, and the toilet around the side of the Love Shack is a squat-style toilet for poos and wees.

The Shack looks out over a permaculture garden that features chickens, ducks and bees, dozens of fruit trees, and vegetable plots. We have two other tiny houses on the property that house young people who come and stay with us to learn how to live a simple off-grid, carbon-conscious existence. The closest one to the Love Shack is ten metres away. There are of course curtains for privacy. These young people also know to only interact with guests if the guests initiate contact.

Guest access
Guest access to the Shack is through the garden, which is shared with our family home. You must walk up some steps, so apologies the Love Shack is not wheelchair friendly. There is a high powered LED torch on the keyring for you to use if you enter the property when it's dark, which it gets here in the countryside :)

Parking is on the street outside our home or on the grass on the other side of the road. We ask that you kindly do not park outside our neighbours' houses, or in front of our driveways. While we are car-free, we still need to get our bikes + trailers in and out.

When you know what time you are going to arrive on the day of your stay, please let us know. We ask that you please do not simply arrive. We love to be here to welcome our guests, show them around and see they have everything they need.

Should you require anything while you are staying here, please ask us. We are a friendly, busy, productive, down-to-earth family of three humans, one dog. We will certainly stay out of your way if that's what you prefer, but we do like to have a chat with our guests so it feels like a connection, not just a transaction.
