With stunning views north-east down through the valley towards the ocean, our cabin is nestled in the rainforest on the edge of the east facing escarpment of our property. The private, eco cabin was lovingly constructed from mostly recycled timbers and joinery and expanses of glass to give an immersive rainforest experience. It feels like you are sleeping in the treetops. The recently renovated contemporary bathroom and kitchenette embrace clean lines and are environmentally sensitive.

Our rustic cottage sits nestled amongst the trees looking out across a verdant rainforest valley and towards the sea. It is about 20 metres from our main house so ensures privacy. It has a king bed (sleeps two), a newly renovated ensuite and basic kitchenette. The kitchenette is suitable for simple food preparation such as breakfast and suitable for only light, simple meals. It is not a full kitchen. There is a BBQ on the deck. There is a very small bar fridge, tea/coffee facilities and a TV for DVD watching only (no TV reception nor internet). Our property sits on an old avocado farm with our chickens called "the girls", Gilly, the cat, vegetable gardens, orchards and manicured ornamental gardens. The cabin is small and cosy (approx 6 x 5 metres with an additional 1.3 m x 4-metre bathroom and the kitchenette alcove measuring 1.2 x 2.5 -metres. An electric wall heating panel can be turned on during the winter months. There is a partially covered verandah with a table and two chairs and a BBQ. We have a Tesla charger but ask you request in advance as we need to move cars around for guests to access. The cabin was originally a hardwood timber cow milking shed built in 1932. We repurposed it using 80% recycled, up-cycled, found or given materials. The ethos being not to buy anything new but recently, we had to upgrade the bathroom and for hygiene reasons everything is new but environmentally sensitive. The bed base is made from leftover timber sandwiched together in the style of Dutch furniture designer, Piet Hein Eek. The styling is an homage to my husband's Fijian ancestry with 100 year old tapa cloth hanging and some retro souvenir items. It is important to note that there are no curtains and the cabin has a lot of glass and windows to provide an immersive rainforest experience. It suits those who love waking up to natural light.
As the cabin is in the bush, we recommend you keep the screen doors closed at all times to avoid unwanted visitors such as snakes. We do not like using poisons so you may encounter a spider but rest assured they are more scared of you. In the cupboard, is a plastic container if you would like to catch and humanely relocate an eight legged creature or insect spray for more permanent removal.

The cabin is not suitable for children or people with mobility issues due to the stairs down to the cabin and verandahs.

Tamborine Mountain or as we locals like to call it "THE mountain", is a haven for easy to moderate bush and rainforest walks and breathtaking vistas to the east and west. It is a popular destination for day trippers from the Gold Coast and/or Brisbane areas and is an ideal weekend getaway. The climate is milder than on the low lands sometimes up to five degrees cooler. It is referred to as the green behind the gold (Gold Coast) due to it's higher than average rainfall (which is not so high in recent times) and the vibrant green landscapes. This verdant, lush flora is aided also by the rich red volcanic soil. There is a strip of shops and cafes called Gallery Walk catering to tourists which are open all year round. It is not a foodie haven but we have a few little gems that will keep you satiated. There is so much to keep you entertained from rainforest skywalks, wineries, cheese tastings and day spas. There are two monthly markets - the show ground (craft, food, plants and produce) on the 2nd Sunday of the month and the school markets (secondhand and craft) on the last/4th Sunday of the month. Every Sunday between 7 - midday next door to the Showground is the Green Shed where you can purchase locally grown produce, flowers and plants.

I am an Australian Producer/Director married to a cinematographer. We have three children (24, 19 and 15 years). We live between our home in the mountains outside Brisbane, surrounded by rainforest and views to the ocean and our inner city, West End house. I love design, art, gardening, keeping fit, travel, music, reading, this list goes on and on. Our daughter is a fluent French speaker and understands a little Spanish so she can always help if you need translation.

During your stay

We live on the property but are not always at home. I am contactable should you urgently require anything. Due to our busy lives we are rarely here to greet you but there is always someone around the property but you may not see anyone during your stay. The directions provided allow you to come and go as you please. We just ask that if coming in late you are quiet as the carpark is close to my elderly mother's bedroom and our bedroom. On weekends we might be around gardening or our son can be seen working in his workshop next to which you will park. We can always be contacted by phone. We travel a lot and enjoy meeting new people but we also respect your privacy during your stay.
