This is a fantastic little cottage to hang out in with access to some great skiing. Myself and 3 buddies were very comfortable here. The dinners and breakfast at Folktale are well worth taking advantage of. I highly recommend this place.

Great place to stay right in the snow. My 5 adult children stayed in Jamie's place while my husband and I stayed in the nearby Pension. Plenty of space for the 5 of them. Great access to ski slopes. Really well appointed accommodation. Jamie communicated well with me and everything was in order when we arrived. We all had meals at the nearby Pension which were amazing. Thanks Jamie for organizing these. Highly recommend Jamie's place.

We had a wonderful stay at Jamie's cottage. It's a cozy, clean and beautiful place to stay. Nestled in a quiet little part of town that backs on to a scenic forest. The Suzukis from the Pension Folktale took amazing care of us. They helped with everything from transportation to ski hire and lessons. Mrs Suzuki's cooking is absolutely incredible and a must for anyone staying at the cottage. Jamie's cottage itself is a great place to stay but added with the hospitality of the Suzukis makes it truly a remarkable experience.

We loved our stay at Jamie's cottage! We were here for roughly 6 weeks. Jamie was great with communication, he helped us with many recommendations before we arrived. The Suzuki's were fantastic caretakers too, so friendly and helpful! The ski slopes were just at the end of the street. Norikura is a quiet mountain with mostly locals which was wonderful. We ventured to Cortina, Tsugaike and Iwatake for some variety on weekends. Definitely hire a car if you stay at Jamie's place so you can get groceries from the supermarket in Happo easily. There were buses 5mins walk from the house but they don't seem to run all year round (only during peak winter season). The kitchen has everything you need. There is bedding for 4+ people, we only had 2 of us so used the downstairs area as a living room. Overall our stay was cozy and comfy. Thank you Jamie!

Thank you Jamie for helping us to enjoy our skiing holoday in Nagano. Your place was exactly as you describe; warm, comfortable and charming. We felt right at home from the beginning. The house is VERY close to two large ski fields. Norikura is closest but due to unusually low snow fall that field had many lifts closed. If it had been open we could have walked to the closest lift. As it was we drove to the next field which was Cortina only 10 minutes by car. With this place you can literally go from your front door to the first run of the day in 15 minutes. If skiing is your main reason for going then Jamie's place can't be beaten. The caretakers, Mr and Mrs Suzuki, are absolutely delightful and very helpful. Their English is limited though so be patient and try out some Japanese. It's all part of the fun of being in Japan so embrace the language. The meals were amazing. Delicious and large. After a day on the slopes, you will certainly appreciate being fed well so make sure you take advantage of their hospitality. This is a great place to stay. Everything was perfect for us. A couple of things to keep in mind. The nearest shops are 10 minutes inthe car away and Hakuba town is 30 minutes if you want to do proper grocey shopping. If you dont have a car I'd say the Pension meals are essential because I'd hate to be wasting time catching a bus into the shops to buy dinner. I am unsure of how frequent the busses are but I did not see one during our stay so I am guessing not to frequent and anyway who would want to wait in the freezing snow for a bus? Renting a car is a great option but is a bit expensive. Make sure you have snow tyres at least, preferably chains as the snow is difficult to drive in. Also, for guests staying more than a few days, a small washing machine in the property would really make things easier. There is a washing machine you can use for 100 yen at the pension but you have to walk there and back with the basket. That is what we did and it was not too bad, just inconvenient. Overall, I highly recommend this accommodation. As I said, you won't get better for location and comfort.

Jamie's kallin cottage was an absolute pleasure to stay at, beautiful, warm cosy with loads of room for 4 adults and 2 children more than comfortably. It was easy to get to via taxi from Hakuba train station (make sure you have the address written down in Japanese for the taxi driver if planning to get one). The location of the cottage is lovely, you are nicely situated away from any busy areas and tourism, however we would strongly recommend hiring a car especially if you are there for more than a few days and have kids, the closest super market and any sort of food place is more than a walk away, there is a shuttle but the times are very limited. we highly recommend mrs suzuki meals also which she can provide for you in her hotel only a 2 minute walk from the house, also she offers a laundry service. We will most definitely re book with Jamie in the future for our next stay in Hukuba. He was also great with communication. Thanks Jamie!

Such a beautiful cottage in walking distance to an onsen which was a great experience! Mr and Mrs Suzuki were defiantly the highlight of this stay with their incredible cooking!! It is a must! We arrived in the middle of December and it was yet to snow but it did start snowing on our third day although we were too early in the season to access the Cortina slope so we had to go down to the main mountains but it was still worth staying in a peaceful location.

I lived in Japan for a total of almost 10 years.

My family and I previously lived in Hakuba and think it is one of the most wonderful places in the world.

We hope you enjoy staying there as much as we do.
