About this listing
Wake in a queen sized bed to the sound of birds, step onto your balcony to experience the beautiful countryside. Pamper yourself in the privacy of your own bathroom. Relax in your own lounge. Savor the tastes of the compementary European breakfast.
The Hepburn region is one of Victoria's finest tourist areas.
We have a large well appointed 1st floor bedroom with its own balcony. The room comprises a queen bed together with a couple of lounge chairs and coffee table and built in wardrobe. There is also a guest lounge complete with chilled wine (or non alcoholic beverage) in the fridge upon arrival, coffee and tea facilities and a snack. The 'Jack and Jill' bathroom can be accessed directly from the balcony room as well as the landing. Each morning enjoy the complimentary healthy continental breakfast in the dining room. On hot summer days turn on the evaporative air conditioner and cool the whole floor, alternatively when the weather cools, there is a log fire in the lounge with heat exchange to heat the bedrooms as well as independent electric heaters in each bedroom. The bathroom comprises a rain forest shower (with handheld facility also), heated towel rail, vanity unit and toilet.
In house massage and beauty treatments are available by prior arrangement and will incur extra charges.
We are located 5 mins from Hepburn Springs and 7 mins from Daylesford. We have our own bush track to the Chocolate Mill (onsite hand made chocolates) and the Goldfields Track is directly behind us. The area is full of history and great for walking, cycling or just relaxing.
Guests will have a key to the front door of the property and their own room. We encourage them to explore both our 5 acres and the surrounding forest.
We show our guests round the rooms and offer refreshments on arrival as well as providing local information if guests request.
This is a tranquil setting only 7 minutes drive from the delights of spa country - Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. There are many walks through the surrounding forests as well as sampling the mineral waters at either Hepburn Springs or Daylesford Lake. Indulgence yourselves with in-house massage or beauty treatments, or locally there are spa treatments readily available as well as the naughty but nice delights of the Chocolate Mill!
Public transport from Melbourne is available to Daylesford or Castlemaine. We are happy to pick you up from either location. Local taxi service available for those late nights! Great tracks for mountain bikes and hiking. We have plenty of space to store bikes. We are also happy to pick up international guests from Melbourne airport for an agreed cost.
We would love you to come and enjoy our bit of tranquility within easy reach of both Hepburn Springs and Daylesford. We aim to provide affordable accommodation with the owners being on site. We are always happy to meet new people and have a chat but we will not be 'too sociable'! Looking forward to meeting fellow adventurers of all types! We do offer one night stays - although naturally we would love you to stay longer. Weekday stays are a great way to enjoy the peace and quiet of this picturesque region.
Guests will be able to access the 5 acres of gardens, the rooms upstairs and the entry from the front door.
Interaction with guests
We greet the guests on arrival and are available via phone or email during your stay. Otherwise we allow the guests to relax in private. Evening meals and picnic basket lunches are available by prior arrangement and will incur extra costs. We will be available during your stay to assist with any travel enquiries, local knowledge etc. If you would like guided walks to the mine shafts we would be happy to show you during your stay (2 night stays only as no time on a 1 night stay)
Our neighbourhood is on the edge of the forest with many creatures residing within such as wallabies, echidnas, wombats, koalas, sugar tail gliders, and many beautiful birds. We also have a lot of history from the goldfield era with a great many gold shafts behind the property. Nearby Mount Franklin was a sacred aboriginal site so there is much to explore and delve into.
Our night sky is filled with an extraordinary display of brilliant stars and planets as well as the milky way. Lie for a while and allow your eyes to take in the beauty of the heavens! Watch out for shooting stars!!
Because we are a 7 minute drive from Daylesford, it is really advisable to have a car. However, for those fit individuals, cycling is a possibility as the Midland Highway is a bitumen road and therefore easy to ride on. We are also happy to pick you up from Daylesford bus stop or Castlemaine railway station. For additional cost, we can collect from Melbourne Airport.
Other things to note
Please note there are 15 stairs to climb to reach upstairs so if you have physical issues, you would be best to book the Studio apartment - see The Studio @ Stone & Straw - which has a wheelchair accessible ramp and walk in shower.
We expect our guests to behave in a courteous manner but we are very happy for them to have animated conversations and the most important thing is to enjoy and relax! We would like you to leave our space as tidy as possible and respect the property. We prefer our guests not to smoke but if necessary we can provide ashtrays and a safe courtyard in which to smoke.

We are youthful in outlook and enjoy living in the beautiful countryside just outside the pretty goldfields town of Daylesford in Central Victoria. We are creating a space for people to come and relax but also to participate in workshops such as glass art which Sean will be starting soon. There is also a treatment room on site where Anne and others can offer beauty and massage treatments. Both of us enjoy travelling and have stayed in several airbnb locations around the world. . We look forward to sharing our knowledge about the area as well as many tips and hints about the area when we meet.
