Royston Station is a place to connect with nature and with yourself.
Rest, relax. Let your responsibilities fly to the wide-open spaces. Swim, stargaze, walk, birdwatch, photograph, take in the incredible sunsets.
The cottage fronts our baby lake and is complete with a jetty and much bird life. Great spot for morning coffee or afternoon drinks.
The space
Royston Station sits roughly 64 km southwest of Longreach, along the main highway toward Jundah and Stonehenge. The drive is fully sealed up to our turnoff, followed by a short 4km dirt track leading to your front gate.
Butler Cottage is one of three cottages set near a small lake, alongside a shared camp kitchen, laundry, and storage building. Once used as accommodation for station hands, the cottage still carries a rustic charm, now complemented by practical comforts such as flyscreens, air conditioning, and a flushing toilet.
The front verandah is set up for relaxing, with classic squatter’s chairs, a BBQ, and stools—perfect for unwinding and watching the world drift by.
Step through the front door and to the left you’ll find a combined dining and lounge area. The couch can be converted into a double bed if needed, though it does make the space a little snug.
At the rear of the cottage is a fully self-contained kitchen, along with a smaller second bedroom that includes a single bed. The main bedroom, located at the front of the verandah, features a double bed.
The bathroom facilities—shower and toilet—are just outside the back door, down a step, with a clothesline nearby.
In the adjacent utility building, you’ll find a washing machine, pegs, a clothes basket, a large fridge/freezer, and a generous sink for your convenience. There are also a few pool noodles stored there for use in the nearby “baby lake.”
This little lake, just a few steps from the verandah, offers a peaceful spot to relax. The jetty is an ideal place to sit in the morning or evening, taking in the birdlife and the ever-changing sky stretching out above.
Guest access
The cottage space is completely yours. The little storeroom building with washing machine, pool noodles etc, is there for your use too.
We ask that you stay within the cottage precinct for your own safety and our peace of mind as this is a fully functional working property.
Any gates that you come through that are closed, we ask you to close them behind you, otherwise, you may have some goats coming to visit you on your front verandah.
We would love to show you around if our time and property activities allow, so just let us know if that were something you would like to do.
