Antique shoppers delight in very walkable neighborhood with grocery store, restaurants, coffee shops, antique stores, galleries, bars, bike stores, etc. Nearby is Springwater Trail which connects walkers, cyclists and joggers to downtown Portland and beyond. Sellwood Park has swimming pool, playground, tennis courts and playing fields with wooded trails to Oaks Bottom for bird watching and other wildlife.
Near to the park is Oaks Park Amusement Park, a Coney Island-like amusement center with rides ranging from carousels to roller coasters. It also has a roller skating rink and also hosts Roller Derby matches at various times of the year. For golfers, beautiful Eastmoreland Public Golf course is just over a mile away.
We live one half block from the main thoroughfare in the neighborhood, 13th Avenue, which has a library, banks, local goods, salons, and food carts. The neighborhood is a quiet, relaxing place, yet accessible to all parts of the city via car, bus or bicycle.
I am an avid cyclist (commuter and racer) and would be happy to guide you about town if you like.There are two nearby bike shops that rent for the day, whether it is a cruiser you want or one with a racing edge. On the nearby trail, you can ride easily to OMSI, downtown, The Pearl or the Rose Garden without much if any elevation change.
Sellwood is a very quiet, easily walkable neighborhood. There are restaurants, coffee houses, parks and bike trails within easy reach.
There is a bus line that stops a block and a half away. I also recommend that visitors try Car2Go, as it allows them to pick up a rental car in the neighborhood and drop off at their destination within the Portland area. There is also a very convenient set of bike trails that connect all around the city within a block of our residence.
