Close to Boone/Appalachian State and Valle Crucis, Ward cottage sits on 100 acres with private hiking trails, firepit, and treehouse. Offering two living spaces - the main house, sleeps 6 & carriage house (above the garage), sleeps 2-3. Our home features decor from local artists and Southern Highland craftsmen as well as cable and WiFi - close to fishing, tubing, & hiking as well as galleries, The Mast Store & dining. Rest, relax, & rejuvenate in this peaceful setting.

The space

The Ward Farm has been in our family for more than 10 generations. However, the house was built in 1993. The main house has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths (sleeps 6), large living room, dining room, well-stocked kitchen, laundry, and a two car garage on one level . The carriage house, located above the garage, has it's own entrance up a flight of stairs and includes a second kitchen, living room, sleeping area (sleeps 2), child's sleeping nook, and bathroom. The house is decorated with arts and crafts from the Southern Highland region from the past 100 years, as well as salvage from the original Georgian farmhouse that once sat on the farm. It is located just off scenic US-321 and has beautiful views out the many large front windows. Since it sits on 100 private acres, it hosts a variety of flora and fauna - feel free to pick the blackberries and raspberries if they are ripe.

Guest access

Guests will have access to the main house, carriage house (over garage), garage, surrounding woods/trails, treehouse, and wildflower meadow. The basement of the home is not accessible by guests - you don't want to go down there anyway, Spiders - eek!

Interaction with guests

Please feel free to call with any inquiries. If we are not available, our house manager is often close by.

Other things to note

Lady Bugs! We have lots of them. In the mountains they are used to control the aphid population on Christmas tree farms. So, at certain times of the year you may find an over-abundance of them inside and out - they don't bite and they are kind of cute.

Beautiful, clean, well-appointed and spacious home with spectacular views of the countryside and all the comforts of home. I'm a gourmet cook and everything I needed was right there for me to play. The kids loved the thoughtful assortment of games and the fire pit was a big hit! Also a big hit was the Carriage house and Treehouse! It was the perfect weekend in the perfect place for Mom's 80th birthday celebration! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home and hospitality. Leslie and Ed and Family

My family and I selected this property kind of in a hurry as a escape location to shelter form Hurricane Irma. We decided last minute that we did not want to stay in Miami, where we live, due to the path the storm had so far. We arrived at the property after driving straight 15+ hours. it was almost midnight. nevertheless, Jackie, the host, was at all moments available should anything come up at arrival. The house is exactly as the pictures show, but there is no possible way to transmit the charm, quiteness and cousyness this house has but being there. Full of character, history and details, though no overwhelming by any means. It is also fully equiped for cooking and dining to delight. The surrounds are beautiful as well. A private mountain trail is available for a morning or afternoon walk or workout. We enjoyed a nice barbecue and roasted marshmellows at the backyard firepit. Few miles away are several forrests and parks and sky compounds for a winter vacation. The town of Boone that lays also 10 minutes away is well endowed with restaurants, curiosities stores and things to see. Would stay again without hesitation

The farm is as beautiful and as spacious as advertised. We enjoyed learning about the history of the farm. The interior was decorated with an antique and modern flare! Jacquelyn was pleasant and professional and the communication was excellent. Our weekend was fabulous!

The cabin was beautiful coupled with the scenery. The location was just minutes from Boone, which made dining out, and exploring the town easy and fun. The house is just as described, and me and our guest enjoyed themselves greatly.

My husband and I stayed here with my parents and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This was my parents first time using Airbnb, and they kept commenting on how wonderful the house was; the decorations, the furniture, the view, and all of the amenities provided. I think they're sold on Airbnb now! We took full advantage of the fire pit and making a bouquet from the wildflower field. At night, we all ooh-ed and aah-ed at the stars and my husband saw lightning bugs for the first time. We definitely hope to come back someday!

Seven of us stayed for three days in this beautiful cottage. We were attending the Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain and exploring some of the local wineries. This was a great location for doing both. The cottage is beautiful with a lovely view of the valley. Everything you needed plus more was available. The two children in the group loved the treehouse in the woods, running around the hillside and watching the fireflies. Plenty roomy and very comfortable. They have thought of everything to make your stay special.

We are a local mountain family that have spread far and wide. However, we love to spend time together in the High Country. We enjoy MerleFest in the spring, Musicfest and Friday night Jam at the Jones House in the Summer, view gazing in the fall, and skiing in the winter. We hope…
