Upper Lansdowne is ~2.5hrs from Newcastle, ~30 mins off the freeway, but feels a million miles away with beautiful scenery & seclusion. Enjoy tranquil, epic views of mountains & farmland from a 1B cabin with verandah.
Located on a farm 400m from the road, the cabin has a bedroom with a queen bed, kitchenette/living area & bathroom. Enjoy the peace & quiet.
The space
NOTE: This is a similar, but larger cabin on the same rural property as "Misty Vale Hideaway". The two cabins are separate from each other and about 70m apart with different outlooks.
WANT SPACE FOR 4 PEOPLE? You can book both cabins.
The cabin has a huge view and grassy area in front and is fully self-contained with linen, towels and light breakfast provisions provided. Please note it has a COMPOSTING toilet.
The only things you need to bring are personal items, food and drinks. There are NO shops or cafes nearby, so bring provisions with you (there are supermarkets in Taree/Harrington 30/39kms away).
The cabin is on a farm and there are cattle, geese, gates, dams, electric fences etc. Guests are welcome to walk around, whilst taking care and remembering to shut gates. The stunning views from the cabin verandah cover the whole valley and surrounding escarpments.
The cabin is ~30m away from the main house, but feels completely private as it is is screened by trees and shrubs and faces away from the house looking over the valley towards the mountain and escarpment.
PETS
The default position is no pets, because the cabin is on a farm with various animals and livestock that can be spooked or harmed by dogs, but ask us about pets that are non-aggressive, well trained and clean. We’ve had those stay before.
ACCESS
Upper Lansdowne is a tiny village, but If you're making the trip north or south on the freeway coming here only adds about 30 mins total to your trip. It's well worth the diversion to see the beautiful, green valley, epic escarpment, volcanic plugs and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Coming from the north turn off the freeway at Coopernook and head for Lansdowne. From the south get off the freeway at Cundletown then turn right (north) up Lansdowne Rd at the airport roundabout.
There is ~1km of dirt road to our front gate that can be rough at times, but it's still suitable for ordinary 2WD cars, just take it easy. Also the tar roads in the area are prone to pot holes and rough spots.
NOTE: Despite online maps saying it's open, Koppin Yarratt Rd coming from Comboyne to the north is CLOSED and has been for more than 10 years, so you can't get through that way.
WiFi & CONNECTIVITY
To give everyone a rest from EMFs, the WiFi gets turned off at night, roughly 10:15-6:30.
Telstra reception is OK in the cabin, better on the verandah. Optus was patchy last time we tried, but you can walk up the slope behind the house to get a stronger signal.
BREAKFAST
We offer light breakfast provisions such as muesli, bread, fruit, milk, tea & coffee. Guests should remember that there are no shops or services nearby, so best come prepared with food and drink. Popping out to get a snack will be a 30-60 min round trip.
The BEDROOM has a queen bed,. The window has blinds, although you may like to sleep with them open to see the star lit view and sunrise over the escarpment.
The KITCHENETTE/LIVING SPACE includes a fridge/freezer, microwave, cooktop, kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils. There is a gas-fired BBQ outside with a side burner and a couple of pans are provided.
There is a built in dinette with seats, a table that rotates, plus a double sofa bed in the living area.
The BATHROOM is fitted with a shower, basin and a COMPOSTING toilet.
OUTDOORS there is a deck with a grassy area and open paddocks in front of it to enjoy the views over our beautiful rural setting. Parking is available about 25m from the cabin
Guest access
Guests are welcome to walk around the property. The 'bottom dam' has a tranquil feel and lovely views. There is a viewing platform at the top of the hill behind the house, that enables you to see the whole of the stunning valley and escarpment. Other parts of the farm can be accessed with awareness that there are animals around, gates need to be closed behind you and electric fences may be on.
Other things to note
Guests park on the hardstand opposite the main house and let themselves in (key will be left in the door).
Telstra mobile reception has recently improved, Optus was patchy last time we tried, but you can walk around (best up the hill behind the house) to get a stronger signal. Note: We use Wi-Fi calling to make phone calls (an optional setting in most mobiles).
There are no local shops or services – 15 minutes one way to Lansdowne Post Office to get bread and milk and other basics, or 30 mins to Taree where there are supermarkets etc.
The cabin is on a working farm with cattle, geese, gates, unfenced dams and electric fences. Guests are welcome to walk around, but bear in mind it's a farm, so please close gates and take care of yourself.
