Our heritage-listed 100 year old railway workers cottage has loads of 'retro' character. Located in a stunning area on the Bass Coast, with a wild surf beach at the end of our road and Cape Patterson and Inverloch beaches a short drive away.

The space
This is our 100 year old weather board cottage in a very quiet street on the edge of town. The beds are comfy, there are heaters in all bedrooms and a lovely open fireplace to keep you warm in winter and a small air conditioning unit and fans for the summer heat. The cottage is comfortable, basic and cozy now but we are continuing to work on it (as money and time permit!) so please excuse any peeling or unpainted surfaces!

The house has been lovingly furnished with retro collectables and artwork gathered from local markets and op shops. There's a large back yard for the kids to play in and a reserve out the back that's perfect for a game of cricket! Feel free to help yourself to the fruit trees (Lemons, limes, apple, plums and nectarines) and the herb garden.

The beach is down the end of the road - on a quiet night you can hear the sea. Campbell st continues into a right of way (through two farm gates) which finishes at the wind farm, from here it's a 10 min walk on a path through native bush to the beach. It's common at dusk to see kangaroos grazing on the grassland and we've often spotted echidnas here too! It's a stunning remote stretch of beach (no swimming as there are rips) and you can often be the only people on the beach. Cape Patterson is only 10 mins away by car and has a lovely rockpool for children and a surf beach that is patrolled most weekends and during peak holidays in summer.

There's lot to do in the area - great coffee shops and markets, tours of the coal mine, see a movie at the cinema, have a meal at one of the local pubs, stroll along the beach, go for a bike ride or just light the fire and relax!

Please remember, this is a 100 yr old house, with 100 year old doors and windows, etc and a little dust is be expected. It is cleaned often so please be aware of this when your reviewing!

Airbnb now asks us to supply bed linen and towels. Please read house manual on how this works.

Guest access
You will have access to the entire home.
We turn the power off when we leave so you will need to turn this on when you arrive. It is located at the front door. Hot water boost available on meter. PLEASE ensure that hotwater switch at meter board is turned off when you leave.

Other things to note
Note that we have decided NOT to charge a large cleaning fee. We rely on YOU - our lovely guests from the airbnb community - to leave the house as tidy as you found it and we are constantly touched by how our well our guests treat the old place.

Also, while we do try very hard to provide a lovely clean house for our guests, we don't live on site and the place can be empty for periods of time so we do ask for your tolerance for the odd cobweb/bit of dust.

Location

Wonthaggi, Victoria, Australia

There are a ton of great walks based on Wonthaggi's mining past. Number 5 brace just down from the Hospital is a great place to start. The State Mine tour is also fantastic. The market at Konwak some 15 mins by car on a Sunday has great coffee, Malay food (I know!) and lots of 2nd hand goods, a true market. Local produce is also on show here.
