Location

Mount Lawley, Western Australia, Australia

Mount Lawley is located just north east of the Perth CBD. Its home to Edith Cowan University's Mount Lawley campus which includes the WA Academy of Performing Arts, St John of God Hospital and The Park Private Hospital. Its on the bus route through the city to the University of Western Australia's main campus in Crawley and Perth's main hospitals plus Curtin University and Murdoch University are easily accessible by train.

Mount Lawley is a safe area with a mixture of high streets and apartments and leafy suburban avenues with big heritage mansions. Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley through Highgate and Eighth Avenue in Maylands are known for their small bars, cafes, restaurants and boutique shops. Favourite night spots are Five Bar, The Queens Tavern, Must Wine Bar and live comedy at The Brisbane Hotel and for breakfast the next day try Rifo's, Chapels on Whatley, Mary Street Bakery...the list goes on!

With a 24 hour IGA supermarket, a Coles and boutique grocers and butchers you won't go hungry if you prefer to cook at home. If you don't want to get your hands dirty try Thai Orchid Restaurant or Wing Bo Chinese Restaurant for great takeaway options or check out Inglewood Night Markets on Mondays.

There are a number of private and public gyms, swimming pools and sports facilities, parks, cycle paths or if watching other people exercise is more your thing the Inglewood Hotel is one of Perth's most popular pubs for watching sport.

If you want to go see a game of cricket or Aussie rules football the new Perth Optus Stadium is great. I don't really like sport but the stadium is so beautiful and is set on the river over looking the city. Australia's largest pub and micro-brewery, The Camfield, is just outside the stadium and accessible without tickets to a match if you just want to go an have a look outside. When travelling to games I'd suggest getting the train to either East Perth or Claisebrook and walking the rest of the way over the river or you can change train lines at Claisebrook and there's a train station at the stadium. Public transport is usually free if you have a ticket to an event at any of Perth's stadiums or concert venues.

The nearest shopping centre is the Galleria Morley and has Coles, Woolworths, Target, Myer, Kmart and many many specialty stores. Alternatively there's Karrinyup Shopping Centre nearer the coast or of course the CBD. West Perth is home to Perth's original outlet mall called Water Town which in my personal opinion has much better bargains that outlet malls in other cities. There's now also a DFO near the airport but its not very accessible by public transport and while it does have big discounts the designer handbags will definitely impact the travel budget!

Finally, make the most of the relatively close proximity to the Crown Casino at Burswood and the Swan Valley. Both are accessible by train but recommend getting an Uber.

I built my lovely apartment off-the-plan and before even moving in I met my now husband. So the apartment is available to those who need a nice, clean, comfortable shelter over their heads while holidaying, visiting family or working in Perth. I live 15 minutes away and am a part-time commercial property manager and part-time business owner.
