The experience begins in the centre of Kilkenny. I will give you an overview of the city's history and why it is laid out as it is. We then move on to various historic buildings and sights. At each location, I give a brief description, it's uses over the years along with an account. The tour is very history orientated, but we will cover other areas such as sport, culture and nature. The tour takes around two hours. The tour takes in the medieval mile but also other areas which are as important, and so we cover almost the entirety of the medieval walled city, which other tours do not. Other things to note The route is approximately four kilometres long and it takes two hours. The city is very old and some pavements are uneven or narrow.

My tour is for all ages and I blend comedy, history, magic and irreverent Irish humour, as we travel along the Medieval Mile Kilkenny. We chat and laugh as we walk to each landmark and I will bring you around the medieval back lanes and corridors as I tell you the history and stories of Kilkenny Castle, Rothe House, The Butter Slip, Graces Castle and Alice Kytelers’ House (Kilkenny’s famous witch) and I use some of my magician skills to bring these stories to life. We will explore all of Kilkenny’s hidden gems and I tell you about turns of phrase that come from medieval times still used today. I will tell you what life was like growing up in such a beautiful city and conjure up images of life in medieval times. One person will become a knight for a while and you will get to see and touch some arrow heads and I introduce to the Shenanigans roar as you become part of the tribe. Departing from Athlone,throgh the lock gates heading south passing the The Meadows on the west side where you will see Moorhen, Little Grebe, Mute Swan, Coot and Grey Heron. The peat bogs which surround the river are home to an abundance of flora and fauna, and is preserved as a natural habitat to the now rare corncrake. Approaching Clonmacnoise by river is simply majestic- Clonmacnoise is an ancient monastic site . A walk amongst the peaceful stone ruins of this famous place will conjure images of the saints and scholars of Ireland’s renowned Golden Age of learning. Founded by St Ciaran in the mid-6th century, it became a great centre of religion and learning. Visitors can see three high crosses, a cathedral, seven churches and two round towers. The beautifully preserved structures of Clonmacnoise Cathedral, Temple Doolin,Melaghlin will impress and leave those who visit Clonmacnoise with an authentic sense of the history of Ireland. After visiting the moanstic site,refreshments will be served on the boat before heading up river back to Athlone. Our final stop, Sean's Bar,the oldest pub in the world. There we will sample a Guinness,or an Irish Coffee,or a malt whiskey. Due to covid the groups need to be from the same bubble. Mask or face shields must be worn. Refreshments will be served outside weather permitting. I supply all you require all you need is sturdy footwear. No sandals or flip-flops! You don't need to be artistic to do this! If my hens contributed fresh eggs there will be homemade cake with your coffee! I will teach you the technicalities of Glass fusing (the boring bit) , how to cut glass (the uncertain I can do it bit) and putting a design together (the exciting bit) . The opening of the kiln the next day - the most fantastic bit!!
