Family-friendly holiday rentals in Nagara River

Koji and Eri’s machiya is quite a special place! They expertly and tastefully restored an abandoned piece of history into a refined and peaceful place to stay in Kyoto. Eri personally welcomed us and showed us the house and they went out of their way to make sure our time in Kyoto was easy and enjoyable! The ofuro alone is worth it!

We hebben een fijne tijd gehad in dit appartement. Het is lekker ruim en ligt centraal in Takayama. Alles was erg schoon en netjes.

Chie & Chris's place is located in a tiny, very quiet alley in the heart of Gion. There are several temples & shrines located within walking distance, & we found incredible restaurants nearby. They gave us clear instructions on what to tell the cab driver to get there, & self check-in was easy. The accomodations were pristinely clean. The master bedroom with a large Western style bed is upstairs, & the steps are steep which was no issue for us at all but might be for elderly, injured, or handicapped folks. My 6'5" husband had to be careful to duck under door frames because of his height but staying in a historic machiya was worth the small effort. Our 14-year-old son slept on a futon on the main level & loved it. Communication was excellent, & they gave us numerous recommendations for restaurants. There is a Lawson konbini & a grocery store close by, as well as a quaint bar across the alley. We loved being within walking distance of the action coupled with the quietness of the night.

Kosuke’s was a wonderful host! He was communicative, responsive, accommodating, and provided great instructions for locating the apartment and accessing it (which made it really easy to find on the little tucked away street). The apartment was clean, comfortable, spacious, and charming and felt like a very traditional Kyoto home, which we loved!! The location was absolutely ideal. It was so close to the Shijo metro stop (3 minute walk) and a very easy connection to Kyoto station and anywhere in Kyoto. In addition, many of the best sites are walking distance from the apartment: the Nishiki market is a 3 minute walk, Pontocho and Gion are less than 20 minutes, and the Yasaka shrine and Maruyama Park are only 25 minutes. And that’s only to name a few. There are also tons of great restaurants on the surrounding streets! It really could not be more ideally located. We loved our stay at Kosuke’s house and appreciated all of the thought and effort he puts into making his home welcoming!

We had a great stay at this Airbnb! The property is beautifully maintained, and one of the highlights was the serene koi ponds that added a peaceful, relaxing vibe to the entire experience. The space is thoughtfully designed with great amenities — coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil, butter, cookware, multiple sinks and separate bathroom areas made it super convenient for our group of 6. It was easy for several people to get ready at the same time without feeling crowded. The owner also went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, even bringing us air fresheners — such a thoughtful and responsive host. Overall, it’s a perfect spot for a group or anyone looking for a calm, well-equipped place to stay. Highly recommend!

A very comfortable and quiet area, conveniently close to Kyoto Station. If you don’t have too much luggage, it’s just a 15-minute walk—or one stop by train. Great value for money, very cozy. Highly recommended!

Sauber und gut erreichbar

Nous avons passé un excellent séjour !! La maison est exceptionnelle, encore plus belle que sur les photos. Immersion japonaise garantie. Et l’hôte a vraiment été géniale et très très gentille. Merci beaucoup pour ce super séjour d’une semaine !

We stayed at Toshie’s designer house for 4 nights. The architecturally fantastic home is in a quiet neighbourhood a short busride from Gakuenmae station, with quick train access to Nara, Kyoto and Osaka. Toshie picked us up from the station, which was appreciated as it might have been tricky to find the house ourselves. She gave us instructions for local transport and amenities within walking distance. Toshie is an exceptional host who is genuinely interested in her guests making sure they have an enjoyable stay. During our visit we needed medical attention and Toshie was extremely helpful with taking us to the hospital and pharmacy. We felt very safe having her as a translator. One night we were able to join Toshie and her husband for dinner and also met their daughter who has a ceramics studio in the house. Thank you Toshie for your hospitality, kindness and generosity. We had an absolutely wonderful time. I highly recommend this house for a unique base to explore the Nara area.

Check-in was pretty seamless and fully digital - no key needed. Layout was good considering the size of the unit - quite spacious dining n living room, yet has 2 showers and 2 non-kitchen sinks meaning 2 pax can wash up simultaneously. Location quite close walking distance to a Lawson, and only a 10min drive away from most city centre attractions such as Matsuzakaya, Osu Kannon, Science Museum, and Oasis 21, 15min drive to Higashiyama Zoo, 25min to Ghibli Park. Host was fast and responsive when we updated that there were no trash bin bag replacements, and delivered it next morning along with some fruits! It would have been nice to have child-friendly cutlery, and also umbrellas as it rained for a few days so we bought out own. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Nice house in a quiet neighborhood. Location gives fantastic access to the city through the Green Line (Karasuma). Easy to access from Kyoto Station shinkansen. Less than ten minute walk to the Aeon Mall. All facilities in working order. The washing machine is very useful in extending the usefulness of your carried clothing.

A very great traditional Japanese house. Very authentic and clean, it was a great experience. The owner was very friendly and helped us a lot with everything. We enjoyed a lot.

3家族12人で宿泊しましたが、ベッドもたくさんあり、ゆったりと過ごすことが出来ました！雨が降ってもBBQが出来たのは良かったです！

This house is lovely awesome and perfectly clean. Our stay was wonderful and more worth the price. The private onsen inside the tiny Japanese garden is beautiful. The location is very quiet, near the river and less 5 minutes by walk from the station and konbini. Everything you need is provided inside the house, so you don’t have to worry about

Natalie on hyvin vieraista huolehtiva, erittäin ystävällinen ja avulias. Oli mukava tavata Natalie ja välittyi tunne, että hän todella välitti siitä että viihdyimme mahdollisimman hyvin. Asunto on erittäin siisti ja esteettisesti sisustettu paikalliseen tyyliin, todella miellyttävä ja ihania yksityiskohtia sisustuksessa. 4-henkiselle perheelle tilaa oli mukavasti ja kaikille oli mukavat sängyt. Asunnosta löytyy tarpeellinen varustelu ja jopa kaksi modernia pyykinpesukonetta, muutenkin varustelu oli laadukasta. Lähin juna-asema on lyhyen kävelymatkan päässä ja asunnolta on helppo kulkea niin kävellen kuin julkisilla kulkuvälineillä. Vielä plussana rauhallisuus, alueella ei ole meteliä ja öisin oli aivan hiljaista. Viihdyimme 5 yötä ja tämä oli hyvä valinta, oli helppoa tehdä päiväretkiä Hiroshimaan ja Naraan ja eri puolille Kiotoa ja palata mukavaan asuntoon illaksi. The host -Seiko was exceptionally friendly and responsive, making check-in seamless and ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The room was spotless, stylishly decorated, and had all the amenities we could ask for—truly a perfect home away from home! Communication was seamless throughout our stay, and she was always quick to respond to any questions. It’s clear she genuinely cares about her guests’ comfort and experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better host and would gladly stay again!

Shogo was an amazing host!! His home was clean and he had so many great directions in english for me and the other guests. I would highly recommend this to anyone staying in Kyoto! I know we will be back :)

Sehr sauber und gepflegt. Es wurde wirklich an alles gedacht. Es hatte sogar Adapter für die Steckdosen, man muss nicht mal seinen eigenen mitnehmen (trotzdem empfehle ich es nur für den Fall). Für den Preis zu gut in meinen Augen. Gastgeberin ist sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich, hat wirklich Spass gemacht. Auch die Küche war top ausgestattet mit Geschirr und sogar Schere etc. Kann ich nur empfehlen!

At our arrival it was raining and we were lost. I didn’t know we had to meet at the office it’s about a 10 min walk to the villa but the host was so kind to walk to us and gave us a tour to the villa. Overall the villa was nice and clean. My friends and I enjoyed our stay here

Reminded me of the first house I lived in in Japan: tatami floors, wooden fixtures, sliding doors... I felt like I was visiting a friend's grandmother's house! Must have been the smell of the wood. Spacious enough for a travel group to have private space as well as communal space. It's a bit of a hike from the train station but still walkable. Quaint, quiet residential neighborhood. Incredible value. Would definitely stay again.

A great spot in Osaka! I was only here for one night but the space would be great for someone staying long term. Host lives/works in the building so he can help with luggage if you get in early or have any issues. Stocked kitchen and large fridge and amenities! Great value!

Banri was a very helpful and kind host. His house is extremely beautiful and welcoming. I would love to stay there again.
