Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Visit the farm animals or farm-to-table restaurant by day (Friday-Sunday from Mar-Sept.) or stargaze at night. Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Approx. 50 min- 1 hr to Victoria. Pottery lessons are available by request if you have always wanted to try it out.

Tzouhalem (Zoo-Halem), a popular hiking/mountain biking and walking destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Our suite is inspected and legal.

We are also midway between Nanaimo and Victoria (1 hour drives). For bikers and hikers the Mt. Tzoulhalem (Kaspa Road) trailhead is 600m away (we provide bike lockup). Our rate is for 2 guests. Thank you Holly and Kevin for a really comfortable stay. The suite is brilliant - everything you could possibly need all through from Kitchen to beds to bathroom facilities. Such attention to detail, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We felt really well looked after and very happy to arrive after a long journey and feel safe and able to cook up a meal and have a really somfmy night's sleep. Thank you Holly and Kevin!

We had such a lovely stay at Dal’s place! The king sized bed was extremely comfortable as were the pillows. The shower had great water pressure, which is always a plus, and the whole suite was clean, cozy, and welcoming. The outdoor seating area was a definite highlight. We spent time enjoying the sunshine while watching deer graze nearby, with a charming peek-a-boo view of the ocean in the distance — so peaceful and serene. Location-wise, it couldn’t be better. It’s just a short walk to the Saturday market and local shops, yet far enough away that it still feels quiet and private. We felt extremely safe the entire time, which made it all the more relaxing. Dal was also a good host, offering helpful local recommendations that we really appreciated. Would absolutely stay again!

Frankly, not enough text space to summarize this whole place but will try my best. First holiday for my wife and myself as first time parents with a newborn, the hosts were incredibly accomodating & ensured the best fit for a little family and new borns first holiday, they were most welcoming and hospitable. Farm products available for purchase are top quality and freshly made from the farm itself - perfect! A tour was provided free of charge and we got the full history of the site and the buildings with a closer look into the architecture and livestock onsite. The Granary was spotless and pristine, the interior decorating/furniture suited the history of the restorated Granary. The building has such character inside and out - the best part is, all the restoration materials were from the existing Granary itself! Scenery surrounding is beautiful, listen to the sounds of the variety of birds and trees, grab your binoculars and get out on the deck! Bath, unreal. Wifi, who needs it? 10/10
