The space
Immerse yourself in Tuscan country life at Maramai. Once a farm with a farmhouse, tobacco-drying building and pigsty, this five-bedroom property near Montepulciano has been transformed into a charming country home and guest house with spacious rooms, modern amenities and inviting outdoor areas. Catch a glimpse of the villa’s past in its large fireplaces, and appreciate its present as you relax by the pool.

The villa’s blue-shuttered windows look out onto wide green lawns and surrounding farmland. Prepare local produce on the outdoor barbecue and enjoy it at the stone table under a vine-covered pergola. Despite the rural location, the villa is well-connected, with cable television and Wi-Fi access.

Once used for storage and even as a cattle shed, Maramai’s living areas are now bright and airy, with vaulted ceilings and pale stone floors. White walls and wicker furniture create a restful feel that’s accented by graphic prints and exotic touches from the owners’ travels to Mexico, Brazil and India. For cozier evenings, there are sitting areas around the original fireplaces. The bright, modern kitchen has a traditional stone sink and is open to the dining room.

There are four bedrooms in Maramai’s main house and one bedroom in the guest house. In the main house, you’ll find two bedrooms with king beds and en-suite bathrooms. A third bedroom has a twin bed and en-suite bathroom, and the fourth bedroom has a single bed and bathroom with shower. The guest house has a queen bed, sofa bed, bathroom and its own kitchenette. The guest house is closed when you book the villa for up to 7 guests.

Maramai is located just minutes from the hill town of Montepulciano, close to Siena and about 90 minutes from the Florence airport. A 5-minute drive will take you to a restaurant, grocery store and tennis court, and the town of Montepulciano itself is only 12 minutes away. Take a day trip from the Chiusi train station, 22 minutes away, or drive right to Ortobello Beach, about 2 hours away.
