Discover a not-so-hidden Costa Rican gem at Villa La Perla. Set near the beach on the lush grounds of the exclusive Los Suenos Resort and Marina, the luxury villa is nevertheless a private tropical oasis in elegant Spanish Colonial style. For couples, there are four suite-style bedrooms spread out over the main house and guest house; for families, there’s a pool plus kid-friendly activities at the resort.

Your stay at Villa La Perla includes access to the Los Suenos Beach Club, Marina and restaurants and bars; you can book tee times at the Los Suenos Golf Course. But you can also choose to simply stay at the villa and revel in the views of the water and garden from a lounge chair on the terrace or a seat at the al-fresco dining area. Kids will love the freeform infinity pool; adults will want to soak in the hot tub. (Younger guests may need supervision for safety, as the villa’s patio leads directly to the pool.) After a day of playing in the sun and sand, try out local specialties on the barbecue and share photos from your vacation via the house’s Wi-Fi.

It may be perfect for tropical vacations for families, but that doesn’t mean Villa La Perla is lacking in flair. From the stately wooden front door to the grand vaulted ceiling in the great room, the villa invites you to make yourself at home in style. Softly textured cream walls and polished stone floors are a Tuscan-inspired backdrop for a roomy sectional in the sitting area and curved-back chairs under a sparkling chandelier in the dining area. Enjoy meals in a more casual setting at the breakfast bar in the fully equipped gourmet kitchen.

There are three bedrooms in the main house at Villa La Perla and one in a guest house. An en-suite bathroom in each of the villa’s bedrooms gives the property all the comfort of a five-star resort. In the main house, the primary suite has a king bed and jetted tub, and one other bedroom has its own king bed. The third main-house bedroom has two double beds. In the guest house, you’ll find a bedroom with a king bed as well as a kitchenette.

Book your flight into Juan Santamaria International Airport, 60 minutes from the resort. When you’re at Villa La Perla, going to the beach is as easy as slipping on sandals and walking 5 minutes to Playa Herradura, and golfing is as easy as changing your shoes and walking 10 minutes to La Iguana Golf Course. There’s plenty to explore at Los Suenos, from the beach club to the marina, and beaches like Playa Jaco and Playa Blanco are also within easy driving distance. If you’d like to see more of Costa Rica, plan a visit to the city of San Jose, 60 miles away.
