The Vibe: The birthplace of punk rock. It’s gritty, cool, and packed with vintage shops, dive bars, and incredible restaurants. Why go: To experience the best nightlife and food scene in NYC. It feels much less "corporate" than Midtown. Getting There: Take the 5 Train (Green) to 14th St-Union Square. Walk east along 14th Street or Broadway to enter the neighborhood. Don't Miss: St. Marks Place: A famous street for quirky shops, street food, and people-watching. McSorley’s Old Ale House: The oldest bar in NYC (opened in 1854). They only serve two types of beer: Light or Dark. Tompkins Square Park: A great spot to sit with a coffee and watch the local scene.

Once the epicenter of the city's punk scene, still known for its nightlife.

This neighborhood still hold onto its grungy bohemian vibes that it’s famous for. No trip to the East Village would be complete without a walk down St. Mark’s place from Astor Place to Tompkins Square Park in Alphabet City. There are a plethora of shops and restaurants to stop in on your stroll down St. Mark’s, but my best recommendation hands down, is that you go into a little hole in the wall, famously known as The Dumpling man. Get the pork dumplings and enjoy their tangy and addictive sauce. Then you can continue to see all the bongs and cheap hats for sale down St. Mark’s amid the tattoo parlors, with small performance venues scattered in here and there. The East Village is one of those very uniquely-New York gems.
