The name "Ootan" we wanted to create an inn where you can encounter landscapes, air, people, words, and stories you have never encountered before. It is an entire inn in a quiet place surrounded by a rural landscape. This newly renovated private accommodation features a Japanese modern bedroom and a user-friendly system kitchen, while retaining the classic charm of an old kominka house. You can cook your own meals in the kitchen, and you can also enjoy a BBQ on the covered wooden deck without worrying about the weather. And this year, a new campfire area has been added. At night, you can watch the flames while chatting leisurely or just spend time doing nothing. Please enjoy a slightly different experience than usual, surrounded by nature. In the colder months, light the indoor wood-burning stove. You can enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by the sound of burning firewood and a gentle warmth. We also have a wood-fired bath, so please enjoy a relaxing bath time while being soothed by the scent of aromatic essences. The bedrooms are made of carefully selected natural materials such as plaster, natural wood and natural oil. The material itself controls moisture and maintains a comfortable atmosphere. Our guesthouse is in a beautiful mountain village, near to it are pristine forests with beech trees and an ancient mountain path that was used to carry sea products from Japan sea to Kyoto in old days. In front of the guesthouse runs a stream that is a source of Lake Biwa and its water is crystal clear ; in early summer nights many fireflies fly over the stream. In winter, we have a lot of snow ; sometimes it reaches 2 meters from the ground! On clear nights you can enjoy the sky full of stars.
