How-to

Make a reservation for someone else

Need to make a reservation for someone else? You can book a home for someone else, even if you're not joining the trip. This is useful if you’re an assistant or family member looking to book for another individual. If you’re part of an organization looking to support someone with their trip, you can book for them using Airbnb for Work.

Requesting permissions to book for someone else

Booking permissions let guests authorize a trusted person to book, pay, and help manage trips. If a guest gives a booker permissions to book for them, a booker will only see reservations they book for that guest—not their other trips.

Before sending a request to book for someone else, you may need to verify your identity, confirm your phone number, and add a profile photo; then enter the guest’s email and we’ll email them to log in (or create an account) and accept your request. Learn more about requesting and accepting permissions to book for someone else.

If you currently use Airbnb for Work, you’ll need to follow these additional instructions.

Managing your reservation after booking

  • Booker: Can view reservation details, message with the group, request changes, invite other guests, or cancel.
  • Guest: Can view reservation details, message with the group, invite other guests, leave reviews, and cancel the reservation if needed. They can also send or request money via the Resolution Center. Guests are unable to submit alteration requests.

How reviews work

  • Who can leave the review: Only the guest who stayed at the listing can leave a review, and only the host can review the guest.
  • Guests and hosts each have 14 days after checkout to write a review.

Property-damage scenarios

Accidents are rare, but in the event that damage occurs during your stay, your host can send you a reimbursement request to cover the cost of the damage. A primary guest, not a booker, is responsible for covering costs.

Contacting Airbnb Support

All roles can reach Airbnb Support during and after the trip. Tap Help in the app or Contact us.

Inviting other guests to a reservation

If the reservation is for multiple guests, both the booker and guest will be able to invite others to join the reservation.

After confirming the reservation, the booker, guest, and other confirmed guests will be able to access the reservation details, view each other’s profiles, and send messages to the group. All of the guests will also remain connected on Airbnb after the reservation ends. The booker will not be added as a Connection to any of the guests on Airbnb.

How to book if you currently use Airbnb for Work

Booking non-work travel

If you want to book a reservation for someone else outside of the Airbnb for Business program, you’ll need to temporarily turn off Travel for work features. First, visit Travel for work in your Account, then turn on the toggle next to Try out the new way to book for someone else.how

What to know as a host

As a host, you can learn about the guests who will arrive on the Upcoming cards in Hosting.

To find out who booked the trip, tap the reservation card to open Reservation details—both the guest and the booker are listed there.

You’ll also see the booker’s name in the host confirmation email you received when the reservation was made.

While the booker isn’t part of the stay, they can:

  • Message you on behalf of the group
  • Request trip changes (dates, number of guests, etc.)
  • When you send an alteration request, the booker is the one who need to approve it, not the guest
