This article provides specific information about local laws that apply to people who host their homes in the city of Solothurn. Just like our country article for Switzerland explains, it’s your responsibility to verify and comply with any obligations that apply to you as a host. This article can serve as a starting point or place you can come back to if you have questions but it isn’t exhaustive and it doesn’t constitute legal or tax advice. It’s a good idea to check to make sure laws and procedures are current.
Some of the laws that might affect you are complicated. Contact the city of Solothurn directly or consult a local authority, such as an attorney or tax professional, if you have questions.
The city of Solothurn levies a guest tax on all overnight accommodations (Kurtaxenregelment) within the city. The revenues from the guest tax are used to create and maintain the tourist infrastructure.
As a host you are responsible for collecting the accommodation tax. You need to collect the tourism tax from guests who are liable to pay it and deliver the amounts owed by the
10th of the following month to Solothurn Tourism. Guests who are staying in the accommodations for more than 30 days are exempt from the tourism tax.
You can find here more information on the amount of the tourism tax, further exemptions as well as relevant documents for download.
