Escape to Wagait Beachshack – Your affordable peaceful and tropical getaway just across the harbour from Darwin.

The space
Nestled on a bush block, Wagait Beach Shack is a comfortable and affordable holiday chalet, featuring two cosy air-conditioned bedrooms (sleeping up to 3 guests) , all essential amenities, and beautiful local Indigenous artwork throughout.

Relax on the spacious verandah overlooking the surrounding bush, where you can unwind in the hammock, enjoy alfresco meals, spot native wildlife and colourful birdlife, and watch spectacular Top End sunsets give way to star-filled skies.

Just a few minutes stroll from the pristine sands of Wagait Beach and walking distance to the Cox Country Club, you'll have easy access to great meals, refreshing drinks, and regular live music.

Whether you're seeking adventure or relaxation, Wagait Beach Shack is the perfect Cox Peninsula base for fishing trips, bushwalking, wildlife spotting, or day tours to Litchfield National Park and Darwin.

Guest access
A true locals secret, beautiful Wagait Beach can be reached by a scenic ferry ride from Darwin's Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal to Mandorah Jetty, or by a leisurely 90-minute drive from Darwin.

For guests arriving without transport, complimentary transfers from Mandorah Jetty to the Beach Shack can be arranged when booking.

.Everywhere in Wagait is walking distance but your own transport is highly recommended, even if only a bicycle. There are great bike paths to and from the jetty and through the forest and wetlands.

A four wheel drive is recommended for the unsealed tracks to remoter beaches and through the forests , although most can also be done in a 2WD if you don't mind a few scratches.

For fishing enthusiasts, there are tracks to One Fella and Two Fella Creeks, ask host for a map

note: all unsealed tracks are best avoided entirely during the wet season and early dry - this is black soil country, you might get bogged until next June!

Other things to note
There is satellite to the node wi- fi - speedy but limited and big lag - suitable for streaming movies/web chat on SD / HD but not goof for Super HD / 4K or mining crypto 🐢😢

Neighbourhood highlights

Wagait Beach is an Australian tropical bush beach community, friendly and welcoming to everyone. It is a Darwin local's secret, and home to many writers, musicians and artists.

Pristine and remote, Wagait Beach is a great destination for fishing enthusiasts, bushwalkers and nature lovers. With a laidback and chilled vibe, the perfect place to kickback, relax and rejuvenate. At night, theres nothing to do except take in the sunsets, gaze at the stars or socialise underneath the giant banyan tree of Cox Country Club, home of the Mandorah Ukulele Folk Festival.

Wagait Beach can be used as a calm retreat from where to explore the city of Darwin - only 15 minutes by ferry from Cullen Bay. Or explore Litchfield Park which is now accessible less than a hours drive on a fully sealed road direct from Wagait Beach. travel around the Cox Peninsula, go for a swim at the natural springs of Berry Springs, or drive to Dundee Beach.

In the immediate area of Wagait Beach there are secluded tropical beaches accessible only by walking on the sand or 4WD and mountain bike tracks through the coastal vine forests. There are also amazing plains of termite mounds , wetlands, WWII ruins and even the wreck of an American Betty Bomber in the forest, maintained now as a war memorial.

At Wagait Beach you can be as active as you like - go looking for turtles on the moonlit beach, fish for barra in one of the creeks or just laze your afternoons in the hammock at the back of the beach shack.
