What you'll do
We'll begin with a brief overview of the tea plant (Camellia Sinensis) and the background of the tea brewing methodology I use while sitting around the tea table in my tranquil private studio. We will then drink multiple steepings of 3 rare teas, including charcoal roasted Oolongs and aged Pu'er teas with vintages of up to 30 years old. I will offer some background on the origin, processing, ecology, and the farmers the teas came from. We will also discuss and explore nuances of tea brewing technique and tools, highlighting the handmade ceramics in use, which include centuries old antique teacups and teapots. Interspersed between casual conversation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, reflect on and receive guidance with tasting notes and palate development, and enjoy 'coming to our senses' in the simple act of drinking tea.

I am a deeply passionate and experienced lover of Chinese and Taiwanese tea and tea culture. I founded Steady Hand Tea Company as well as a 6,000 person online community dedicated to learning about and building Chinese and Taiwanese Tea culture. Once a year I embark on tea sourcing trips to Taiwan and China to build relationships with ecologically minded artisan tea farmers as well as to learn from remarkable tea professionals. I hold a BA in T’ai Chi and have always had a deep love of East Asian culture, philosophies, and aesthetics which I enjoy integrating into my tea practice and gentle hosting approach. A lighthearted and anti-snobbery tea enthusiast, my mission and joy is to connect with people over tea and teach them more about something they drink every day, spreading the infectious magic of this incredible plant and lifestyle.
