What you'll do
• We invite you to make yourself at home on our lovingly restored classic white electric yachts. Our skipper will make your sailing trip one to remember aboard the vessel that has proudly entertained many visitors to the region since 1982. • We leave the marina at the beginning of the mighty Waikato River and work our way along the bays of Great Lake Taupo with an informative and interesting short history of the area, it’s volcanic nature and settlement. • Sit back and relax in comfortable seating on our spacious deck as we round the point to the famous Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings. • Sail Barbary takes you right up close for the perfect shot of the 14-metre high rock art. You’re guaranteed amazing photo opportunities as you experience one of life’s instagram moments on this tour of cultural significance. • Soak up the warm sun or go for a swim before you enjoy free refreshments at the Rock Carvings. • As we depart from the carvings, roll up your sleeves, as you can take the wheel, help hoist the sails or just sit back and enjoy the view. • We’re equipped for all conditions, including awesome warm ponchos. • If the wind dies down, Sail Barbary’s quiet, eco-friendly electric engine kicks in. We have NZ’s only two commercially operated electric yachts. • We work our way back across Taupo Bay to the marina with stunning views of mountains, Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro.

Where you'll be
We sail out to Whakamoenga Point to see the famous Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings. They are only accessible by water. Sail Barbary takes you right up close to the face of Ngatoroirangi for the perfect photo of the 14-metre high rock art. The main carving is the face of an 800 year old ancestor. It is surrounded by smaller sculptures depicting ancestors and kaitiaki (guardians). While it was carved in 1981 the designs used are ancient.
