What you'll do
Our farm is located on the opposite riverbank to the famous book-town Hay on Wye. The iconic River Wye is an integral part of life here and is historically revered as the birthplace of British Tourism! Our river trips are run by our long-standing, hand-picked team of professional British Canoeing Instructors accompanied by Aubrey, Admiral of the Hay Navy as your host, all experts in their field and firmly committed to creating a safe, fun and memorable experiences. Having our team as your guides on the river gives you the benefit of being able to learn basic canoe-skills, play games and make the most out of the new skills you've learnt, also take in the scenery and wildlife more easily. If you've canoed before they can also help you expand upon and work on technique. The instructors paddle their own canoes so they can wizz about amongst you, you then choose the boat format that suits your group on the day. We use our most popular and flexible route; Hay to Whitney; you'll paddle past a Medieval Castle dating back to Henry II, under a 240 year old toll-bridge and will have the opportunity to spot an abundance of rare and endangered wildlife and birds.
Clare, Aubrey and family (Aubrey and Rosalind - Co Hosts) run an organic farm on the banks of the River Wye at Hay. The Wye is by far one of the most beautiful rivers in the British Isles and one of the few you can navigate by canoe, without restriction, for well over 100 miles. The farm has been in our family for nearly 200 years, we still farm but have also more recently diversified to enable us to share the beauty of our unique landscape and natural resource/habitat - the river - with our guests. This combined with a passion for open canoeing and endorsement from British Canoeing transposes into us offering bespoke, guided river trips. You can expect to see a number of spectacular and fascinating characters in their natural habitats; kingfishers, herons, cormorants, swans and otters all from the prime viewpoint of their canoe.
