About me

I am the founder of Yu-Art Kichijoji, a Japanese confectionery salon. After graduating from Musashino Art University, I worked as an industrial designer for a Japanese electronics manufacturer. Meanwhile, I was strongly attracted to traditional Japanese culture, and learned the tea ceremony, obtaining the Urasenke tea name (full-time instructor) "Soyu". As an extension of my tea ceremony studies, I learned how to make Japanese sweets for tea ceremonies from craftsmen at Japanese sweet shops, and also learned recipes for Japanese sweets to make at home in cooking classes. By learning both professional recipes and homemade recipes, and by utilising the skills of an industrial designer, I have designed a Japanese confectionery making experience that "anyone can easily and enjoyably make". The Japanese sweets made in my salon are traditional Japanese sweets served at tea ceremonies. In order to allow customers to experience Japanese culture more deeply, I will be the host (the person who prepares the tea) and we will have a tea ceremony (Usucha Tenmae) where you can try the Japanese sweets.
