I run the private accommodation Kimono Hotel Himeji in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, and have welcomed guests from both Japan and abroad. Through running the inn, we have often received questions about Japanese lifestyle, etiquette, seasonal events and kimono culture, and we have gained experience in sharing aspects of Japanese culture that are part of everyday life. In this experience, my mother, who has worked in the beauty industry for over 10 years, will take the lead in demonstrating the basic kimono dressing techniques passed down in our family. As an assistant, I will provide support to ensure that even first-time participants can enjoy the experience with peace of mind. Rather than holding a formal class, we prioritise allowing participants to experience kimono as part of everyday culture within the actual space of the inn.
