I had a wonderful evenjng seeing the authentic Quito on a food and drinks tour with local expert Edwin.
The food tour featured coffee, traditional sweets and colado morado (a warm fruity beverage that tastes a bit like a non-alcoholic mulled wine and is typically drunk as part of Day of the Dead celebrations).
Also yummy bread and various veggie potato stews (at a local place that also serves cow placenta, if you're feeling adventurous).
On the bar tour we visited hidden gems of every kind, from a very cool candle-lit underground pub to a rooftop bar with a view over the lights of the city.
Throughout the tour, Edwin was a perfect guide with a wealth of local history knowledge, from politics to monks brewing beer!
I stayed in Quito for a couple of days after the tour, and returned to many of the local eateries on the tour. They were far cheaper than the tourist places near me. I never would jave found them without Edwin.
Well worth the cost of the tour.
