Paris "Artists & Outsiders" Walk!

Paris "Artists & Outsiders" Walk!

Duration:3 hours total
Languages:Offered in English

About your host

Together we created this exciting, in depth walk round our own neighbourhood of Montparnasse, the 14th district of Paris - once home to Picasso, Hemingway, Sartre and De Beauvoir and wealth of other surrealist and rebel artists and writers. We'd like to share with you the secrets of this area - the international hub of creative, urban Paris of the 20s - through a walk round its bars and artist…

What we’ll do

During this experience, we'll hear about the urban mysticism of Surreal Paris which developed here. We'll take a stroll through this 19th century artists' village, which until 1860 was farmland outside the city walls of Paris. We'll see its tiny parks, winding cobbled streets, workshops and studios while hearing about the lives and mad theories of the painters and poets who lived (and still live)…

What else you should know

The 14th district is a place of artist studios, literary cafés, fascinating architecture & beautiful parks. It's a secret side of Paris which not many visitors get to see. In other words (though we hope you decide to come along!) keep in mind we won't be showing you the Eiffel Tower/the Louvre etc

What to bring

Good walking shoes and an umbrella if it rains!

Where you'll be

We'll visit the artistic haunts of sculptor Giacometti and naïf painter, le Douanier Rousseau. We'll see the bars and cabarets frequented by the Surrealists and 'Kiki', the muse of 1920's Montparnasse. We'll walk through the Montparnasse Cemetery and discuss the people buried there. We'll hear about the 30s Lesbian bar 'The Monocle' and end on the café terraces where Hemingway and Fitzgerald drank while Josephine Baker walked her pet cheetah
