What you'll do

The experience takes you through the process of block printing with linoleum from start to finish. It has been designed to suit the absolute beginner with no artistic background through to someone with a strong creative streak who fancies trying or revisiting the medium. We begin with a brief introduction of what lino printing entails and the tools that are used. We will then look at some examples of work and discuss methods used to achieve different results. Then it's straight into cutting, you will have an opportunity to experiment with the tools and techniques before moving on to the real thing. As for the image, you can design your own, if you feel confident or choose one of the designs I will provide and get straight into cutting the lino. I will be on hand to help with carving techniques and do my best to ensure everyone leaves with all their fingers intact. As soon as the first person is ready to print I will then talk the group through the printing process and demonstrate how to achieve good results. By the end of the session you will have produced your own, original, hand-printed artwork to take home with you. A unique souvenir of your time in Porto

Andy

Since rediscovering a passion for block printing with linoleum about 4 years ago I have been experimenting with different techniques, learning new skills, tips and tricks that I am now able to pass on to you in this experience. I fell in love with Porto's creative atmosphere while visiting in 2016 and decided to move here very shortly after that to work on my printing and further develop 'Drawne Up', my print brand. The streets of Porto, it's architecture and azulejos (coloured tiles) feature heavily in my work and are a continuous inspiration. The experience takes place at my print and illustration shop in central Porto, Squid Ink Works, which is where I currently work and sell my prints.
