What you'll do

NATURALLY PRINTED
The goal of this workshop is to utilise the natural environment around us and show you how it can be turned into a work of art. Working solely with natural forms: seeds, stems, leaves, resin and ash we will produce a kaleidoscopic variety of images referencing back to the origins of the natural world around us. We will weave through various compositions and coloured prints. We will learn how to make our own natural pigments derived from resins and spices.
The options are endless as you can bring any natural items that you wish to permanently capture with this timeless technique.
You will leave with knowledge on how to continue this practice in your own home with little equipment.
The world is yours to create with.
Other things to note
We are not working with toxic materials, all inks are water based though bring an old shirt incase you get dirty!

I have always found beauty in the everyday. Since moving to this region from Italy I fell in love with its nature and rugged beauty and it continually inspires my work. I have recently returned to Margaret River after 2 years lecturing in Printmaking at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Bologna, Italy. I would love to not only share my passion of printmaking with you but my love of the bush of Margaret River and its endless artistic opportunities.

Where you'll be

I will welcome you into my studio in Margaret River, close to town and the beautiful rails to trails bike and walking track. We will head out into the bush surrounding the studio and collect leaves, resin and seeds all for use in our workshop. There is a small backyard to sit and drink tea, a fire for the colder months and other artists who share the space so plenty to see!

I sent my teenagers on the experience and despite them being boys of few words, they really enjoyed it. Some of the prints they created are fantastic and will be framed for home or for gifts. Wish I could have gone myself, looks like a really interesting experience and I'll most likely go the next time we return south for a break.

After booking our accommodation in Eagle Bay, Francesco’s Printmaking activity came up as a recommendation for things to do in the Margaret River region. What an amazing discovery! Whether you’re an art lover or not, Francesco’s printmaking session will captivate you and delight you. He was a great host and very engaging with us. Being Italian, the wine and antipasti were awesome too!

I could not recommend this experience enough! We are a mid-20s couple in very not artistic occupations but the gelli printing is so accessible. It felt like we were achieving some nice pieces in the time we had with no experience. Francesco was a great host, the time went so quickly I almost couldn't believe it, I just lost myself in the process. Plus the whole experience included wine & cheese, what's not to love!
