What you'll do

This trip will take you around Sham Shui Po, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Hong Kong. It has a long history of the garment industry and an old transportation hub, there's no better place to get a glimpse of the old Hong Kong.

We'll start off with snack and a light meal at my favourite street side noodles stall (quite a rare find these days), there you can get all the flavours of a traditional shop. After the meal we'll visit an ultra old-school commercial centre nearby, definitely not the usual shopping centre you know of, you'll see what I mean when you get there.

With our lunches sorted it's time to head back to the heart of the old town, where all the market streets are. We'll stroll through the toy street and the electronic street that used to be an old massive second-hand market, there are a few shops that sell very reasonably priced vacuum tubes if you're into that sort of thing.

Our final destination before dinner would be the fabric market, there are arrays of fabrics, buttons, beads and also quite a few very nice shops for leather making.

Dinner will be at an open air Cantonese hawker, you'll love the sound and the smell, and there's no better way to end this
Other things to note
1.Come as Hungry as you can! 2.Will be up to a small hill for stunning sunset view if you feel fine for a 5-8mins easy hike! 3.Food choice can be Vegetarian/religion/allergy friendly upon request.

After completed higher education and professional culinary training in London, I came back to Hong Kong to work in restaurants and finally started my own. Walking to the corners of Hong Kong for food inspirations has naturally become part of my work and favourite pastime! Let me take you on one of my little trips and I'll show you what we eat and how we eat!

Toh was great, very easy to spend time with and extremely informative. As he himself has had experience as a restauranteur, he has in-depth knowledge about Chinese cooking and ingredients - the walk through the market was especially enlightening. Time-wise he went over and above the call of duty - nothing felt hurried. Highly recommend.

Wonderful experience! I highly recommend this experience in HK. Toh is super knowledgeable about the region and you get a nice blend of food, culture and stories about the area. Would recommend Toh as a guide for cultural walks or other experiences in HK, not just food (although that was great too)! Don’t forget to ask about the record shop...

Toh was a wonderful host! I had some issues getting to the meeting point and he met me where I was. He told me all about Old Hong Kong, showed me pictures and explained how the city has evolved. We took a hike up a hill and the views were spectacular. I also learned a lot about Cantonese food, cooking, and the culture of eating in Hong Kong. He was super personable, interesting and I really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend.

Toh was funny and personable and really exposed me to the heart of HK cuisine. As we were heading the same way following the tour he took time to show me more of the city. It was a very unique experience! Highly recommended!

This was a fantastic experience to learn about the food history, and actual history of a Hong Kong neighborhood. We met in a busy open air market and then started right away with something to eat, and even a lesson on how soy is made. The afternoon and evening was a walking, talking, and eating experience. Very much worth the value and I got to taste so many things that are unique to Hong Kong. Toh added in a great history lesson of the local structures and we went to a museum highlighting the building structures of poor housing over the past 70 years. I thought it was a fantastic experience and highly recommend Toh. Great guy!
