Founded in 1880 and continuously family operated since then, the Oleificio Gulino is quite an impressive operation. We had an opportunity to tour one of the company’s facilities in June. Mr. Gulino and his assistant were very gracious and explained in detail the manufacturing process of olive oil.
Aside from the countless domestic/international prestigious awards the company has won over the years, we were very impressed by how green the operation is. Nothing is wasted. All ‘waste’ components of the olive during production are repurposed. Pomace, a semi-solid material, is dried and used as biofuel. By-product water is used to irrigate the olive grove, and the company utilizes solar energy.
At the end of the tour, we were treated to samples of their delicious olive oil. Grazie mille!
