What you'll do

Reopening to fully vaccinated people shortly. Vaccination proof is required on arrival. (aged care nurse in household, can't take any chances, sorry)

Honey Wines Australia is the only operating licensed meadery in the Hunter Region. In case you have not heard of mead, it is a wine that is made from honey instead of grapes.
Our brewery (not open to the public) is in Port Stephens. This tasting event location hosts beehives only.
We will do an informal mead tasting in my backyard apiary (bee farm) sitting under the shade within a few metres of the beehives that supplied the honey for the mead.
I will present the main mead flavours I manufacture and you can taste samples of each.
We're an online store so guests will have the opportunity to buy bottles at the end if they wish. The ticket price will be given as store credit towards mead purchase. (check our website for pricing)

The experience usually goes for 45 mins to an hour.

If there are not yet other bookings for a date I am often flexible on start times. Contact me first.

Other things to note
Although extremely rare, it is possible to be stung by a bee for no reason at all. For this reason, if you are allergic to bees it would be best not to come. Although I have not yet had anyone stung whilst here, note that it is possible.

Try to avoid wearing black.

If wet weather it can be conducted under a gazebo.

This was a fantastic experience. Martin was passionate and knowledgeable about mead. It was great to hear all about the process and the setting amongst the bee hives and by the lake was beautiful.

Our mead tasting with Martin was wonderful. The backdrop of the lake and buzzing bees added an extra special touch. I would suggest everyone to book this experience if around the area - definitely worth it! Thank you Martin

Martin was a fantastic host and so knowledgeable and entertaining talking about the history of mead making and the practicalities of bee keeping. We had the opportunity to not just taste a variety of meads but also tour his hives and try some local honey and associated dressings. Getting the ticket price back in store credit added even more to the value of the whole experience.

This was a birthday surprise for my partner (and such an arrangement always poses a risk) - but it did not disappoint. I felt strangely calm sitting amongst the bees, who I normally fear. We did the mead tasting with just one more group who - with Martin - were all great company! Very interesting flavours. Martin is also hugely passionate and such an approachable chap. A huge part of the fun was not knowing entirely what to expect - and with that, I encourage you to book the experience, highly confident you will leave with smiles!
