What you'll do

The ORIGINAL crabbing experience teaching The Art of Crabbing on all aspects. This experience has been going since 2017 since Airbnb's experiences begun. We will meet at the Chit Chat Cafe located in Pacifica on the Pacifica pier on stable dry land (no boats). We'll provide insights on the nature of crabbing and fishing in the bay area, what crabs like to eat and why the bay is home to a large and distinctly diverse crab and shellfish population. Crabbing is a respectful sport so we aim to catch only what we can eat. The community of Pacifica crabbing is unique in that people from all walks of life are there so prepare to meet new friendly folks Once we arrive at the pier we'll provide a thorough overview of the equipment and tactics needed to set up all different appropriate crabbing stations for personal consumption. We will be going for Dungeness Crab the best of the best in the Bay... will be using a combination of crab snares off the rod and reel and different variations of crab pots. We'll share how this has been an actively growing hobby of locals in the area and explain some of the different types of wildlife in the bay and the best way to prepare truly San Francisco meal. Please keep in mind that we will be standing for long periods of time while crabbing.. Please bring additional seating if you feel the need to have it for yourself or your guests that may need it.

Alex

My name is Alex and crabbing is a true passion of mine. I am a chef and an avid outdoorsmen. I think too many people have a disconnect between their food and where it comes from. My co-host Auggie is a expert fisherman, craftsman and has been crabbing since the 1980's! I am looking to meet new people, enjoy time being by the ocean, teach those willing about west coast crabbing and harvest it's bounty with respect to mother nature. I am a San Francisco native so I have a lot to share! Either myself or my associate Auggie will provide this unique once in a lifetime experience (based on the date) that truly is the gift that can keep on giving! If your looking at crabbing closer to San Francisco or looking for off season crabbing please check out my SF based experience under the Golden Gate Bridge. https://abnb.me/zdvBODEbZW

Where you'll be

Pacifica Pier. A fishing license is normally required when fishing off of local beaches but because we will be going off the Pier in Pacifica it won't be necessary to have a license. We will have unobstructed views of the coast line from Half Moon Bay to the Montara mountains to the cliff sides of Pacifica. After meeting at the Chit Chat Cafe AT THE PIER (there are 2 chit chat cafes) we will walk a block down to the pier to commence crabbing!
