The host was polite and responsive in the chat, but unfortunately the experience did not work out for me.
Before the tour, I was told that someone other than the host would be the guide, and that “there will be an English translation.” This made coordination more important, because the guide was not the host, did not seem to speak English directly, and I did not know what they looked like.
I arrived at the agreed meeting point by the Colosseo metro station, next to the green kiosk/newsstand. It was extremely crowded with many tour groups. I asked how to identify the guide, sent a photo of where I was standing, and asked people nearby, but could not find the group. The guide’s phone also apparently was not working.
To be fair, another guest seems to have found the guide, but there were no further Airbnb messages from the guide or other guests to help me locate them.
I don’t think this was intentional, but the meeting process felt too risky for such a crowded place.
