Our experience leader Hayden Peters been teaching mourning jewellery history since 2005 worldwide, showcased in museums, written articles & been on TV. The topic of grief & love in jewels is one of the most beautiful & important factors that defined who we are today. They give us a look into how our own ancestors behaved, which wasn’t as different as how we are today! These little tokens represented an entire life & discovering more about these lives give us greater insight. Learn, love & laugh as we see how a king who wanted a few more wives led to the creation of an entire mourning industry!

I spent a magical evening, enjoying Hayden Peters exquisite collection of Mourning and Sentimental jewellery. Being the mastermind behind the Art of Mourning, his wealth of knowledge and generosity of spirit gave one a great insight into the History and Traditions of such precious jewels and paintings. A fabulous hands on experience of Museum quality pieces, made it a special time to be treasured.

I have to confess I didn't even know what mourning jewellery was before attending this event at Lord Coconut (fantastic wunderkammer-style jewellery store in the heart of Melbourne's CBD) - so it was indeed a discovery for me. Hayden bravely brought along part of his amazing collection and generously shared it with us, together with all the knowledge he has accumulated throughout the years. A very informative night on a unique subject - absolutely recommended. If you love design, jewellery, history this is a great chance to learn something new. Thanks Hayden and Lord Coconut!

The entire evening was enchanting! Hayden is such a rich resource of knowledge, history, and context about this jewelry which is much more about love than death! It was fantastic to see the beautiful pieces - and an absolute dream come true to be able to handle them rather than see them behind glass. Truly museum quality - and all the information you could ever want to know! The space was very lovely, as well, and set just the right tone for the evening!

Mourning Jewellery Discovery was an informative and fantastic event. Hayden Peters is well known internationally as an important and respected collector of mourning jewellery, I felt so privileged being in the presence of just a small part of his collection. It was a very hands on evening; under Hayden's guidance we were able to actually try on many of the pieces which was such a treat. Hayden's knowledge of mourning and sentimental jewellery (way back from the 16th century) added greatly to the enjoyment of the event. His manner is illuminating and amiable, and his dress sense I have to add is handsomely dapper! Lord Coconut is the perfect venue for such an event, it's an amazing jewellery shop in the heart of wonderful Melbourne supporting many local designers. I highly recommend the Mourning Jewellery Discovery event! x
