What you'll do

This will be a full day (9+ hours) of exploring destinations not usually seen or experienced by the average visitor to the World Heritage-listed upper Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.

Yes, you could visit all the usual standard, well worn, and crowded Blue Mountains tourist destinations but isn’t it more fun to “step off the trail” and explore those little known secret places that only us locals know about?

We'll start the day with a hike to a very secluded and virtually unknown spot that has amazing views into the Megalong Valley, we'll then explore an amazing secret cave and beautiful waterfall that you can even walk behind, we'll then trek through a truly wondrous, cool, and ancient rain forest with a lovely gentle creek running through that we can explore.

Lunch will be at a historic local cafe that has been serving amazing meals for over 60 years. After lunch we'll take a wild and hair raising walk to experience a near 360˚ panoramic view across the Blue Mountains escarpment and Megalong Valley. We'll then hop over the escarpment and travel the heath and cliffs of Blackheath.

We'll then continue our adventure down Victoria Pass for an afternoon snack at the sweetest little shop in the Blue Mountains.

Then finally we'll trek to a truly breathtaking and heart stopping vantage point to take in the afternoon sun and the ever-changing views across the upper Blue Mountains

I LOVE the Blue Mountains. I love its bush, its creeks, its waterfalls and natural pools, its little villages, and especially its hidden, unique, and little known places that only us locals know about! I have been hiking, camping, exploring, and living in the Blue Mountains for over 20 years. I'm even the local Scout leader up here too ! I founded Blue Mountains Day Trip Tours to bring my knowledge and love of the Blue Mountains to visitors of the region - and to help them explore places that few have seen - so they can take home memories and tell of experiences that their friends will envy.

Where you'll be

Our day starts and ends at Katoomba, and we'll travel as far west as Little Hartley, with stops in Medlow Bath, Blackheath, Megalong Valley, Shipley, and Mount Victoria.

If you are staying at one of the many local hotels or B&Bs in the upper Blue Mountains I can happily pick you up from your accommodation, and drop you back at the end of the day.

Great experience. James took us to several different look outs and short trips, showed us different beauty of blue mountain. He is so friendly and approachable. He is very knowledgeable about hiking. We have seen breathtaking views, secret rainforest and cave, unforgettable sunset. The structure of the whole day trip is very relaxing and reasonable. We take time chatting, photoing, enjoying yummy food and asking lots of questions. It definitely was a worth value experience.

James is a brilliant tour guide with a wealth of knowledge about the blue mountains and experience hiking the area as a scout guide and also with his daughters. This tour was better than anything we expected, not just for the incredible views but for how much we learnt from James. If you want a tour with a personal touch, no rushing and visiting spots you wouldn’t find on your own, then I can’t recommend this tour more!

James was a wonderful, cheerful and charismatic guide. Being the local scout leader has made him very knowledgeable about the area and it's history. There was never a dull moment and the amazing sights coupled with a fantastic lunch made this a trip we will think back fondly of for years to come.
