What you'll do

We'll meet at Woollahra Sailing Club and have a briefing on the objectives for the day depending on the wind and weather. Then we'll change in the club changing rooms. After a safety briefing, we'll launch the boat from the new wide ramps. The best way to get to the club is to take the ferry from Circular Quay to Rose Bay and then walk along the path next to the water until you see the boat park. Island Sailing I will sail with you around the Islands of Sydney (Shark Island, Clark Island and Fort Denison subject to wind conditions) to familiarise you with the Weta we'll sail to a nearby beach to swap crew around and back to Rose Bay. If you are comfortable, you will be able to take it out alone. The Weta is very forgiving of mistakes, difficult to capsize and recovery is easy. If you have booked a longer session we can sail to a cafe or kiosk for a break and a snack or drink (also a good place to change crew or meet non-sailing family members on the beach) and then we can sail back to Rose Bay. The Weta is unique that it can be sailed in almost any conditions - as long as you're wearing the right gear. The Weta has been approved for both the World Masters Games and Paralympics so people with reduced mobility are most welcome. More at weta.com.au

Learn more about Paul White

Paul White

A lifelong sailor and racer in everything from dinghies to maxis - Paul moved to Sydney from the UK in 2009 and wanted to be able to share and enjoy sailing on Sydney Harbour in a boat that was fun, fast and easy. He saw a video of the New Zealand designed, Weta Trimaran and immediately knew that's what he needed - "a skiff with stabilisers!" - providing all the fun of skiff sailing without the drama. Having purchased his first Weta in 2014, he combined his background in marketing and technology to promote the Weta in Australia and then took on the NSW dealership in 2016. He organised the Australian team at the 2017 World Masters Games and loves to share his enthusiasm for the Weta on the Wetaforum, Weta Wiki and Australian Weta Class Facebook Page. He continues to work with Weta Marine on Weta World Marketing and sails every week.

More tips

While I may be comfortable sailing in almost any conditions, I understand you may not be. We will decide on the day before your booking to sail or not depending on the weather forecast. UV levels on the water are always high so sunscreen is a must. You may get wet so wear layers to keep warm.
