Beaumont high country homestead

LouisaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Our 2nd stay at the glorious Beaumont high country homestead and this mini break was just as good, if not better than we remembered. The homestead is the perfect spot to enjoy all that Chinghee Creek has to offer - rolling hills, friendly cattle, peace and quiet, and quality family time at its best. Our kids (10 & 13) spent their days exploring and battling each other at table tennis, and we all enjoyed reading, baking, and board games. Our hosts Claire and Rod were incredibly helpful and generous during our stay, inviting us to view some recently born calves at Christmas Creek. A five star rating doesn't seem enough. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Sure! Here’s a review you could use: We had an amazing stay at Paul’s place in Banora! He was super responsive and made check-in and check-out really flexible, which made everything so easy. The house was great value compared to others in the area — spacious, clean, and perfect for our group. We loved the little touches like the welcome snacks and the huge selection of board games, which kept everyone entertained. Everything we needed was available, and the whole experience felt really relaxed and comfortable. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Large private home with Firepit

JacquiRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
We had the most incredible stay at this beautiful English-style house! It was the perfect setting for a group getaway—spacious, stylish, and so well-equipped with everything we could possibly need (and more). The surrounding nature was absolutely magical. We spent our mornings with a coffee in hand, listening to the creek running and the birds singing—so peaceful and grounding. The whole place had such a calm and welcoming energy, and it made our time together truly memorable. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy a little slice of nature in total comfort. We'll definitely be back!

The Tide-Pottsville

Dani was a great host! Very friendly and was great in getting back to my questions quickly, despite being away on holidays herself. The place was huge… much bigger than it looks in the pictures, so it was perfect for our extended family. The kids loved the pool and it was exactly what we were looking for. We had everything we needed for our Easter break. Thanks so much Dani and family ☺️

Your guide to Evans Head

Introduction

Sand, salt water, sunshine, seafood: Evans Head is a coastal tonic for the soul. Life here revolves around the water, whether the Pacific Ocean surf, the calm river estuary that splices the township, or the freshwater lagoons and wetlands, home to hundreds of species of birds that characterize the national parkland of the surrounding Richmond Valley. This part of northern coastal New South Wales also played a fascinating, and unlikely, part in World War II, as the site of one of the country’s largest training bases for the Royal Australian Air Force. Not that you’d know it today. Like much of the rainforest-clad region, locals here live a languid, free-spirited lifestyle.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Evans Head

As most activities in Evans Head revolve around the water, it’s no surprise peak season is the warmer months. Summer (December through February) and fall (March through May) see daytime temperatures at their highest, between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This time of year is also the wettest, however, so be prepared for a few showers.

Water temperatures range from 78 degrees in summer to 72 in winter, which means you can swim here year-round. And cooler winter months (June through August) are also ideal for hikers, with daytime temperatures around 65 degrees and rainfall at annual lows. Regardless of the season, bring SPF 50+ sunscreen, a hat, flip-flops, and your swimsuit, plus good walking shoes if you’re planning on exploring the rainforest.

Top things to do in Evans Head

Beaches

With a surf beach patrolled by the Surf Life Saving Club (Main Beach), fishing favorite Airforce Beach, and long river beach Shark Bay, it’s natural that swimming, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking opportunities abound. The calm waters of the estuary are ideal for families, while waves galore invite board-riders along Pacific Ocean beaches.

National Parks

Stretching from Evans Head northward is Broadwater National Park, its coastal hiking trails popular among birdwatchers, picnickers, and those on the lookout for migrating humpback whales (May through November). To the south is Bundjalung National Park, a beguiling union of coastal heathland, powdery dunes, and deserted beaches. Whether you’re walking, fishing, or mountain biking, keep watch for eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, and bower birds, among the 140 species of animals that live here.

Evans Head Heritage Aviation Museum

History buffs will want to linger at this fascinating museum, offering insights into Australia’s role in WWII. Thousands of members of the Royal Australian Air Force were trained here, and their stories are remembered today through photographs, memorials, and a lot of gear, including military and civilian aircraft and artifacts collected from across Australia.
