“We enjoyed our first trip so much, this was our second within a month. Such a lovely space during the holiday season, the weather was milder so we spent quite a bit of time by the fire pit, when we could get our boys away from all of the sweet animals. So quiet and peaceful, chickens roaming around, cats waiting outside the door for snuggles, drama llama escaping again, haha! Chewie , the goat has a special place in our hearts, the kittens, oh, the kittens! And of course the sheep, I’m pretty sure my boys know the names of all of the animals now! I love that it’s such a rustic, barn feel downstairs , but the actual barn we stay in is so clean, beautiful, a true vacation for a mom. Thank you, Karen and George for your hospitality, and great ideas of things to do. The Toy Train Barn was a huge hit and Cave of the Mounds, wow, amazing. And stop in Mt. Horeb, with all the crazy trolls, we ate a 1 and 1/2 pound soft pretzel at the Grumpy Troll. We can’t wait to come back and see all the new lambs!!”

“I took my three teen-aged nieces to this lovely house for a social-distancing vacation. We appreciated being away from everything that is going on in the world. The kids said they slept better than they do at home. The beds are uber-comfy and the bedding is great. They very much appreciated the extra touches like microwave popcorn and hot chocolate. They also all used the big bathtub. I loved getting out of the big city and seeing the stars and birds, particularly the hummingbirds right out the windows. We even saw the Neowise comet one night. The house is two stories with the three bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs and one bathroom downstairs. If you have trouble with stairs, the ones here are a little steep. The Internet is cellular so don't expect to be able to stream or download large files. This was good for us because instead of watching online videos, the kids were playing games with each other and me. The yard is big and you also have access to the walking paths through the woods and through the prairie. The house was perfectly clean. The air conditioning worked well. We really loved our time there.”
This house is a historic home that was built in 1833 on land owned by Jamison Hamilton, the founder of Darlington. It is not known if he actually lived in the house, but could be assumed. During your stay you will find bits of history and pictures have have been gathered along with photos! It has all the comforts of home. A beautiful four bedroom home that has been completely renovated to reflect the old and new times. This home was on the list to be torn down by the city.
“We absolutely loved our stay with Josh and Nicki. We were looking to get out of Chicago to find some peace and quiet and this is exactly what we needed! The house is amazing, and the kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, which made it easy to cook. We loved the porch swings where we enjoyed our morning coffee and evening wine. You’re only a few minutes away from enjoying nice country drives and being able to stop by the Amish for produce more fresh than Whole Foods can offer! Lol There are tons of outdoor activities from renting ATVs to floating down the river...just ask your hosts and they’ll be able to point you in the right direction! Full disclosure the house is located across the street from a local drag race track which does obstruct the view. The races are on Friday nights only ...I was in the house while they were going on and could hardly hear it! All in all we will be going back to explore more of Darlington, the surrounding nature, and to see Josh and Nicki!”
