This house is a historic home that was built in 1833 on land owned by Jamison Hamilton, the founder of Darlington. It is not known if he actually lived in the house, but could be assumed. During your stay you will find bits of history and pictures have have been gathered along with photos! It has all the comforts of home. A beautiful four bedroom home that has been completely renovated to reflect the old and new times. This home was on the list to be torn down by the city.
“This would be a great place for family and /or friends outing. The kitchen is well stocked with most anything in the way of utensils, cookware, bakeware etc that I can think of. The dining room table can easily seat 10 and the lighting is good. Comfy couch for vegging out and watching tv. There is a nice sized tv in the common area, a smaller one in the kitchen and one in each bedroom. I am glad we were not trying to watch the Packers on broadcast TV as we are an older group of women who are not up to date on the whole Firestick thing and we could not figure out how to get broadcast TV. We figured out Netflix etc. but could not watch what we call “regular” tv. Not a problem most people will encounter. The bedrooms have comfortable beds, night stands, and adequate closet space. A full bathroom on each floor was very much appreciated.”
Enjoy this private 2-bedroom apartment in downtown Shullsburg. Great kitchen. Brand-new bathroom. Very quiet. Within walking distance of everything Shullsburg has to offer. Cable tv. Internet. Record player.
“We loved David's place! There were 3 of us and we had plenty of room to spread out. It would still be spacious with 4 people. The beds and pillows were comfy. The record player and albums were great. That was my teenage son's first time operating a record player, which he thought was really cool. David had great suggestions of places to go. We tried nearby "Gravity Hill" where you put your vehicle in neutral and your car (seemingly) rolls uphill. (Look up a video on YouTube). The local cheese store/creamery was fun, and you get to sample cheeses (adult beverages, too)! Shullsburg is a relatively close drive to Galena, IL as well. We hope to come back sometime!”

“We enjoyed our first trip so much, this was our second within a month. Such a lovely space during the holiday season, the weather was milder so we spent quite a bit of time by the fire pit, when we could get our boys away from all of the sweet animals. So quiet and peaceful, chickens roaming around, cats waiting outside the door for snuggles, drama llama escaping again, haha! Chewie , the goat has a special place in our hearts, the kittens, oh, the kittens! And of course the sheep, I’m pretty sure my boys know the names of all of the animals now! I love that it’s such a rustic, barn feel downstairs , but the actual barn we stay in is so clean, beautiful, a true vacation for a mom. Thank you, Karen and George for your hospitality, and great ideas of things to do. The Toy Train Barn was a huge hit and Cave of the Mounds, wow, amazing. And stop in Mt. Horeb, with all the crazy trolls, we ate a 1 and 1/2 pound soft pretzel at the Grumpy Troll. We can’t wait to come back and see all the new lambs!!”
