We are located in a collective land of the Wounaan indigenous people of Darien. It is an opportunity to live together and participate in traditional activities of the indigenous people. The activities we offer are fishing, bird tourism, trail walking, traditional dance, crafts, traditional painting, and dolphin watching at sea. We await the visit.
“Very simple but you can see the real life of indigenous people.”
La Chunga is in a difficult access indigenous community without electricity or roads. Come see this gem of a community and the indigenous way of life. You’ll love this place because of the nature walks, the wildlife, the gastronomy, and the people. We have a number of guided tours and adventures. My place is good for adventurers trying to see something new and exciting.
“Since this is a very unusual location to stay, I want to go into details here. First of all, it is very much worth it. La Chunga Is a very interesting village with nice people and many things to discover. But the trip will be a little pricey. How to get there Going to La Chunga is a lot easier then you might think. There is a direct bus from Panama City to Meteti for $9. There will be one stop at the Darien border where tourist need to register for their entry. But this is very easy and takes you about 10 min. The bus will wait for you. From Meteti (Terminal de transporte) you will find another bus to Puerto Quimba for $2. Here you can spend the night in the local hospidaje for $15. The owner woke me up the next morning to bring me to the right boat in time. The final ride to la Chunga by boat is about two hours for $22. What to expect in La Chunga La chunga is a lovely and quiet place, and (yet) not very touristy. They receive guests frequently tho, about five to ten every month. The food is NOT included in the payment, so be prepared to pay $15 per day for food. I hope that Solarte will update this information on Airbnb to avoid confusion... Most of the time we spent with Rutilio, the brother of Solarte. He Is a very kind men, and his family is amazingly friendly. I felt very welcomed by all off them. He is always trying to make you feel good and provide everything needed. Food, trips and company. He doesn't speak English tho, if you speak Spanish he is very much communicating. Solarte Is a quiet kinda guy, although he speaks a little English he is more of an introvert. We had amazing hikes trough the forest, a fishing trip in the river, a hunt for a water pig and many hours of playing and swimming with the kids. Expenses In my opinion this place is a little overpriced, considering that it is a very basic place in the jungle. But of course, tourist are the only income people have here. That's why they charge you for many things. Food $15 per day, charging a battery using the solar panel $1, hiking trip $15 per day, "national park entrance fee" $10 one time payment, fishing trip $15 to name some examples. I recommend planning all your activities upfront with Solarte, so that you are clear about how much to spend there. I like a lot that people don't bother you trying to sell souvenirs, only the last night Rutilio showed us some neclesses his daughter makes. But very respectfully and not expecting us to buy. So in conclusion, yes, I recommend going there a lot. It's relaxing and quiet, a very nice and welcoming community and so many outdoor activities to discover. Prepare to spend some money tho....”

“The hotel is located 10 minutes from the town, which is good if you are looking for tranquility and a space away from noise. The facilities are very spacious, with common areas with hammocks, board games, perfect for reading and relaxing. The matrimonial room is large, very clean, with all the services, although the mattress is actually a very hard thick mat and if you are staying several days it can be uncomfortable. The breakfast is normal American, if you are vegan or vegetarian they can prepare something for you, but it is not their specialty nor is there a lot of variety, the same with dinner (although it is better than many of the options in the town and next door they sell the best burgers vegetarian). The attention is excellent, they make sure you have everything you need. It is actually the best place to stay if you are looking for tranquility and comfort. --- The hotel is located 10 min away from the main town. This is good if you're looking for a quiet place and away from all the noise. They have wide and comfy installations, with common areas with hammocks, table games, really cool if you want to read and chill out. The couple's room is also quite spacious, very clean, but the mattress is very hard and if you want to stay for more than a couple of days, it can hurt your back. Breakfast is the usual American standard, if you're vegan or vegetarian they can make something up for you, but is not really their specialty neither are a lot of options. (Even though is better than most of the restaurants in the town, and nextdoor are the best vegetarian burgers ever). The people that work in cangrejales are very kind, they're always aware that you have everything you need. Is definitely the best place to stay if you're looking for a comfortable and quiet place.”
