Popular amenities for Crowdy Head holiday rentals

All about Crowdy Head

Perched at the end of a peninsula, the laid-back fishing village of Crowdy Head boasts panoramic views from its cliff tops and a small harbour with a marina and boat ramp at its shoreline. Locals congregate at the town’s two beaches, located on the north and south ends of the headland, a seven-minute drive from Harrington. The south beach is a magnet for experienced surfers who come here for the big swells, while the north beach is known for activities like jogging, fishing, and kitesurfing. Both have plenty of barbecue pits and picnic areas as well, and most accommodations are within walking distance to the village’s few amenities, which include a good seafood market and a café. For a wider selection of restaurants, bars, and grocery stores you’ll need to head into Harrington.

What are the top things to do in Crowdy Head?

Crowdy Bay National Park

Enjoy hiking, driving, or biking through the wilds of the area’s nature reserve at Crowdy Bay National Park. The beaches are littered with huge rock arches and the nearby rainforest is rich with wildlife, including kangaroos, koalas, and cockatoos. The park has a long history as the original home of the Birpai people, and there are Aboriginal sites preserved today where you can step back in time to over 6,000 years ago.

Crowdy Bay Lighthouse

The town’s most iconic feature is its blue and white lighthouse. The structure dates back to 1878 and is still active today. Pay a visit and you’ll be rewarded with panoramic sea views and, in the winter months, an ideal spot to watch the whales go by during their migration season.

Fishing in the harbour

Crowdy Head harbour is a hotspot for anglers, known for its excellent hauls of kingfish, snapper, cod, and tuna — though you should acquaint yourself with the local guidelines as some fish are prohibited out of season. With the variety of options of boarding one of the charter trips from the harbour, trying your hand at sea casting, or simply dropping a line over the side of the marina, Crowdy Beach’s reputation as a fishing village is certainly well earned.
