Your guide to Pinjarra

All About Pinjarra

One of the oldest towns in Western Australia, Pinjarra wears its history on its sleeve. Settled in 1830, Pinjarra was — and to some degree, still is — a timber town surrounded by tall-tree forests nestled along the Murray River. As you explore the quiet streets of this small town, you can find many restored historic buildings dating back to the mid-1800s and early 1900s that are now home to a variety of cafes and restaurants. It is even possible to ride in a well-preserved steam engine on the Hotham Valley Railway. There is a 1.2-kilometre Heritage Walk Trail that takes you through the old post office, courthouse, and school, and if you want to learn more about the town’s long history, head over to the Edenvale Heritage Complex, where you can check out old homes and antique farm equipment.

Aside from history-focused attractions, the town also boasts a new town square and family-friendly park. Since the Murray River runs through town, Pinjarra can be used as a base for many outdoor activities such as kayaking, boating, canoeing, hiking, and skydiving.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Pinjarra

Pinjarra experiences moderate weather all year round. Temperatures can heat up in January and February, making it one of the best times for water sports. Conversely, it can be quite cold in June, July, and August, which may make it a little difficult to do outdoor activities. June marks the annual Pinjarra Festival, with live music, market stalls, kids’ activities, and workshops. This is a great time to see the town wake up from its winter slumber. The shoulder seasons of spring and fall have moderate weather and are a good time to secure your Pinjarra accommodations. In April, you can visit the annual music and camping festival which features a wide array of musical performances, kid-friendly events, and artists collaborations.

Top things to do in Pinjarra

The Pinjarra Heritage Trail

The Pinjarra Heritage Trail takes you on a 30-minute walk though the town’s many 19th and early 20th-century buildings and tells the story of how Pinjarra got its start as an important centre for farming and timber. The trail leads you down to the Murray River and a nearby pedestrian bridge and passes by a historic courthouse, post office, church, schoolhouse, and private homes.

Murray River

Historically, the 134-kilometre long Murray River has been an important link between Perth and its surrounding towns, including Pinjarra. Today, it provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as kayaking, boating, paddleboarding, and hiking. If you have access to a boat, you can even travel towards Perth along the Murray River Pub Trail, stopping at some of the riverside pubs along the way.

Amaze Miniature Park

This park resembles an English village but with a whimsical twist. All of the buildings are less than a metre tall and are scale models of their larger counterparts. You can find more than 70 replica buildings set amongst beautiful gardens. Highlights include a miniature Eiffel Tower, brightly colored townhouses, and stone churches.
