Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Stay in Carriage 421, a 1915 South Australian railway treasure converted into a private retreat at Figbrook Farm. Nestled in gardens and orchards, it features polished timber floors, a queen bed, kitchen, bathroom and cosy living space. Enjoy WiFi, mobile service, laundered linen, fresh eggs, and seasonal produce. In fig season, pick your own fruit and herbs. Secure, remote-controlled gate access ensures privacy at this peaceful Riverland base for towns, wineries and the Murray River.

The space
Carriage 421 carries more than a century of history, built at the Islington Railway Workshops in 1915. Once a suburban carriage, it has been carefully converted into a self-contained farmstay with polished timber floors and warm, nostalgic character. Inside you’ll find a queen bed, bathroom, kitchen, laundry and a comfortable living area styled for relaxation.

The carriage sits amongst gardens, orchards and surrounding vineyards, giving you the chance to unwind while still being centrally located to all Riverland towns. Step outside to birdsong in the morning, enjoy coffee in the garden, or wander amongst the fruit trees. In season, guests are welcome to pick fresh figs, collect herbs from the kitchen garden, and enjoy produce straight from the farm.

Modern comforts include WiFi, mobile phone service, and crisp commercially laundered linen. We also provide fresh farm eggs, coffee, tea, milk and a few basic provisions to start your stay. This unique combination of vintage railway history and modern ease makes Carriage 421 the perfect choice for couples looking for something memorable in the Riverland.

Guest access
Guests enjoy exclusive use of the entire train carriage throughout their stay. The space includes a private bathroom, kitchen, laundry and comfortable living areas designed for rest and privacy. Whether you are preparing meals, reading a book, or watching the evening settle in through the windows, the carriage offers a sense of peace and retreat.

Beyond the carriage itself, you are welcome to wander selected parts of Figbrook Farm. Stroll through the gardens, breathe in the orchard, and take in the atmosphere of a working farm surrounded by vineyards. In fig season you may pick fruit directly from the trees, and at any time of year you can gather fresh herbs from the kitchen garden to enhance your meals.

Entry is through secure, remote-controlled gates, giving you privacy and peace of mind. Reliable WiFi and mobile service keep you connected, while at night the clear Riverland skies offer incredible stargazing opportunities.

Other things to note
Figbrook Farm is a working property, and from time to time you may hear a passing tractor, harvester or farm machinery in the distance. It is all part of the authentic Riverland farm experience and most guests enjoy seeing the rhythm of the land around them.

The carriage itself is fully self-contained, offering privacy and comfort while proudly retaining its heritage quirks. Please keep in mind that while it has been carefully restored, it still shows signs of its age and character — something many guests find adds to its charm.

House rules: no pets, no parties or events, and no smoking indoors. Only booked guests are permitted on the property unless agreed with the hosts in advance.

We provide laundered linen, seasonal produce, fresh eggs, and basic provisions such as coffee, tea and milk. In fig season, you are welcome to enjoy fruit straight from the orchard.
